TRANSCRIPTION OF

"THE PEDIGREES OF THE RIGHT HONOURABLE SMITH BURKE EARL OF CLANRICKARD

VISCOUNT CLANMORRIS AND BARON OF DUNKELLIN

AND JOHN BOURKE

LORD VISCOUNT MAYO.

A.D. 1748"

This book traces the ancestry, origins, and history of the families of Burke/Bourke/De Burgo/De Burgh in Ireland from the year 689 to the year 1750. It was written by Chevalier Thomas O'Gorman, and it consists of 165 long handwritten pages, and includes 1,197 individuals. My brother had heard of the existence of this book in the Museum in Dublin. He was able to go there and view a microfilm of the book. He subsequently obtained a photocopy of it. Because of the complexity of the data presented, I decided to put the families in the book into a genealogy program. These pages are a result of that work. While only two of the families are specifically listed as having connections with Jamaica, there is no doubt that other Jamaicans can trace their ancestry back to them.

Spelling in the early 18th century was not yet fixed, so there may be some variations from modern spelling. During a certain period there were no surnames. In order to maintain continuity I would default the surname to De Burgo when no surnames were provided in the text.

These pages are in genealogy report format. If they had all been included in one single report it would have consisted of 147 pages of hard copy. It was therefore divided in the following manner:
