Notes for William FitzAdelm de Burgo:

Ancestor of the Earls of Clanrichard. "I only have this Pedigree from Sir William Dugdale ---King of Arms in his Baronetage of England, Tom I page 25, and Sir Richard Cox, Lord Chancellor of Ireland, in his Hibernia Anglicana, Lib I page 31, but it is also in the Rolls-Office of Dublin, and was made by the order of the Earl of Strafford some time Lord Lieutenant of Ireland in King Charles I's reign. No notice therefore should be taken of some who in the Earl of Clanrichard's Pedigree place John Monoculus among his ancestors, being led into that gross mistake by reading in history that said John Monoculus and Serlo his brother accompanied William the Conqueror into England as I have observed before page 4, but it appears from what I marked above, from undoubted testimony, that John Monoculus was not the Earl of Clanrichard's ancestor, but a first cousin of Robert de Burgo Earl of Moreton in Normandy and of Cornwall in England, from whom the Earl of Clanrichard and all the Bourkes in Ireland do derive their descents, of which Robert and his descendants to the present Earl of Clanrichard." (Pages 7-8)
