The Daily Gleaner, Thursday, April 12, 1934 - Page 16:

PICTURESQUE WEDDING YESTERDAY AT THE HOLY CROSS CHURCH.
MR. PETER STEVE DESNOES MARRIED TO MISS DOROTHY DEW, A CUBAN SOCIETY LADY
Kneeling beneath an arch of palms and coral lilies with springs of asters, white gladiola, and roses and flickering candles as a background, Mr. Peter Steve Desnoes, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Peter Desnoes, prominent St. Andrew society people, and Miss Dorothy Dew, fourth daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roland Dew of Santiago de Cuba - were joined in holy matrimony yesterday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock.

The scene of this picturesque and simple wedding was the beautiful little Holy Cross Church at Half Way Tree.

The wedding ceremony was a quiet one, only relatives and a few intimate friends were guests.  The bride's only bridesmaid was her sister, Miss Gladys Dew.

The bride looked charming as on the arm of her brother, Mr. John Dew, she entered the church and walked up to the candle studded altar while Mr. Arthur Chevolleau, Holy Trinity Cathedral organist, placed one of Schubert's military wedding marches.

Given away by her brother, she was dressed in a creation of ivory white satin and veil of tulle, edged with Chantilly lace.  She carried a sheath of white gladiolas.

The bridegroom's brother, Mr. Leonard Desnoes acted as bestman, and the bridesmaid, (her sister, Miss Glady's Dew) wore a pretty dress of pale blue net and a picture hat to match and carried an old-fashioned posy of pink rosebuds and forget-me-nots.

The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Fr. McDonald, S.J., assisted by the Rev. Fr. McLaughlin, S.J., and Rev. Fr. Bather, S.J.

Leaving the altar to sign the register one of Wagner's soulful marches was played and the soft melody of Oberlander filled the church while the names were signed.

Mendelsohn's famous bridal march swelled out from the organ as the happy couple left the church amidst showers of confetti and good luck wishes for the reception at Bamboo Pen, the Hope Road residence of the bride-groom's parents.

Obituary on Stuart Sharpe ...
A father of international tourism in Jamaica
E. Stuart Sharpe, 79, who served as director of the Jamaica Tourist Board from 1967 - 1970, died in Miami, Florida after a brief illness following a stroke.
He was widely regarded as one of the three fathers of international tourism in Jamaica and also served as deputy director under John Pringle from 1963 - 1967.
In his early career he was manager of the first United States sales office for Bahamas Tourism, located in Miami and was also vice president for sales for Gill Hotels of Fort Lauderdale, Tampa and Nassau, Bahamas.
For many years, until recently, he represented the Half Moon Hotel here in Jamaica for Florida.
The former director of tourism was widely-known for decades among travel agents in all parts of the United States and was founding member of SKOL, the professional travel organization.
Mr. Sharpe had the distinction of seeing the industry blossom under his leadership as he set himself the challenge of providing an irresistible product.  His personal mission was to seek out new attractions, improve old ones and ensure that the personnel were trained to deliver service of the highest quality.
The "Sharp era" is remembered as one in which Jamaica's tourist industry enjoyed dramatic growth, coming into its own as a major industry.  He was the son of a banana plantation family in St. Mary and educated in Jamaica and the United States.
He joined the United States Army during World War II as a co-ordinator of overseas troop entertainment programmes.
Mr. Sharpe who was unmarried at the time of his death is survived by eight children, 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Following cremation a private memorial service will be held on October 7 in Pembroke Lakes.
