REGISTERS AND WILLS

Descendants of Jonathan James

Generation No. 1

        1.  Jonathan1 James was born March 11, 17211, and died April 1791.  He married (1) Elizabeth (James).  She died Bef. 1791.  He met (2) Sarah La Cruize.  She died Aft. 1791.

Notes for Jonathan James:
A most unusual entry appears in the St. Elizabeth Parish Register, Volume I, page 50:

"1785, Feb. 6.  Jonathan James, born Mar. 11. 1721.
John, son of the preceeding Jonathan James and Elizabeth his wife, Born Feb. 8. 1741.
Jonathan, born Mar. 11, 1766, and Anne, born Mar. 10. 1770, children of the preceeding John James and Anna Bonella his wife.
N. B.  there being the strongest reason to believe that these Four Persons had been regularly baptized by former Rectors, though it does not appear by the Parish Register, the Hypothetical form was used in order to avoid the Improprieties of rebaptizing, and yet comply with the request of the Parties who were extremely desirous to ascertain their Baptism."
