SEAMEN IN JAMAICAN REGISTERS

There are numerous references to seamen in the Jamaican Parish Registers. Many of them were undoubtedly British, some Canadian or American, but other ships would seem to be of Jamaican registry. Usually the records are for burials, but there are sometimes records of marriages and baptisms of children. Most of these children remained in Jamaica. The entries are useful not only in locating people, but also in identifying which ships put into certain Jamaican ports. The list below is a sampling of these records.

Many other seamen are included in other pages on this site, especially church records, naval officers listed in Almanacs, and newspaper reports. A search for the words seaman, sailor, captain, mariner, ship, brig, brigantine, or schooner will produce many results.
