In the Name of God Amen I Abraham Rodrigues Brandao of Bevis Marks in the city of London Merchant being in a good state of health Memory and understanding knowing the uncertainty of the duration of this present life do make this my testament in order to dispose of the estate which God was pleased to grant to me in the manner following Imprimis I do surrender my soul to almighty God the creator of Heaven and Earth my body it is my will shall be interred in the burying ground belonging to the Portuguese Jews as decently as my Executor hereinafter named shall think proper it is my will that out of the most effective part of my Estate all my lawful Debts and Charges of my Burial be paid Item in consideration that I have given in my life time to my eldest son Anthony Lopes Seixas deceased who was married to my niece Guivunan? Rodrigues Brandao residing in the Kingdom of Portugal I leave and bequeath unto his three sons my grand children one hundred pounds Sterling Bank annuities Item I leave and bequeath unto my son Daniel Rodrigues Brandao five shillings I having given him in my life time a certain sum of money and in consideration of my having given a certain sum of money to my son Salamon Rodrigues Brandao who is married to my Niece Judith Rodrigues Brandao residing in the Kingdom of France I leave him only three hundred and fifty pounds of said Bank Annuities Item In consideration that I have given in my life time a certain sum of money to my son Moses Rodrigues Brandao who married my niece Hester Lopes Pereira deceased residing in the Kingdom of France I leave to my grand daughter left by my said son one Hundred pounds sterling Bank annuities Item I leave to my [written in column] Daurd Rebecca Rodrigues Brandao one thousand one hundred pounds sterling of said Bank Annuities Item I leave to my step daughter Rebecca Mendes the wife of Isaac Mendes dwelling in this city of London twenty pounds of the said Bank annuities Item by reason that I have in my life time given a certain sum of money to my step son Daniel De Para? Prim...l? residing in the Kingdom of France I leave him five shillings Item I leave to Neices Maria my step daughter the widow and relict of Anthony Mendes residing in the Kingdom of Portugal twenty pounds Bank Annuities by way of charity and in case she should happen to die before me the said legacy to be given to her sons Item I leave to my sister Marianne H.....? viz. Widow and relict of Matthew Orabio? residing in the Kingdom of Portugal twenty pounds Bank Annuities Item I leave to my four nieces left by my sister Elvue? Maria residing in the Kingdom of Portugal twenty pounds sterling Bank annuities for once only to be divided amongst them Item I leave to my said son Jacob Rodrigues Brandao the remainder of my estate I leave to my said son Jacob Rodrigues Brandao the remainder of my [blank]  Item I leave to my said son Jacob Rodrigues Brandao and to his said sister my daughter Rebecca Rodrigues Brandao all the furniture of my house which they are to divide between them as good brothers ought to do Item I desire that my executor hereunder named do favour with some charity for the repose of my soul my nephews the children left by John Perveira Dias residing in the Kingdom of France I do name for my executor my son Daniel Rodrigues Brandao and do revoke All other testaments herebefore made by me and I request my said son and executor to do all what is mentioned in this my testament and in witness of the truth I gave this my testament Signed and Sealed with my own hand the 25th of the month of January 1768 Abraham Rodrigues Brandao.

Of the parish of St Dunstan Stepney in the county of Middlesex Merchant and David Mendes of the parish of St James Dukes? Place London Grocer and jointly and Morally made oath on the Pentateuch or five Books of Moses as? followeth to wit that they these Deponents have respectively known and been acquainted with Abraham Rodrigues Brandao late of the parish of Saint James Dukes? Place London aforesaid deceased for several years before and to the time of his death and have during such time often saw him write and subscribe his name and were and are thereby become well acquainted with his manner and character of his writing and subscription and these deponents having now seen and carefully viewed the paper writing hereunto annexed wrote in the Portuguese language bearing date the 25th of the month of January 1769 and signed Abraham Rodrigues Brandao purporting to be the last will and testament of the said deceased they these deponents Do upon their oaths severally swear and depose that they do verily and in their consciences believe the whole contents of the said will and signature thereto subscribed to be entirely of the .... Proper handwriting of the said Abraham Rodrigues Brandao the Testator deceased Raphael Brandon, David Mendes the same day the said Raphael Brandon and David Mendes were duly sworn to the truth of this affidavit before me Geo: Harris surrogate Hon. Geo. Faulekner? Noty. Pub.

This Will was proved at London on the twenty third day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty nine before the worshipful Francis Simpson Doctor of Laws Surrogate of the Right Worshipful George Hay Doctor of Laws Masterkeeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oath of Daniel Brandon Seixas otherwise Daniel Rodrigues Brandao the son of the deceased and Executor named in the said will to whom administration was granted of all and singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased having been first sworn duly to administer.


Will of Isaac Pereira Brandon

In the Name of God Amen I Isaac Pereira Brandon of the Parish of Kingston in the Island of Jamaica Merchant being of sound Mind and disposing Memory praise be Almighty God but knowing the Certainty of Death and the uncertainty of the time thereof Do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following ffirst and Principally I recommend my Soul to God who gave it Trusting in his Mercy for the Remission fforgiveness of all my Sins and my Body I commit to the Earth to be decently Interred in the Burying place of the Jewish Nation in the Town of Kingston aforesaid according to the direction of my Executor hereinafter nominated and appointed and as to the disposition of my Temporal Estate wherewith it has pleased Almighty God of his Infinite Goodness to bless me with I give devise and bequeath the same as follows I give and bequeath the sum of two hundred pounds of Lawfull Currency of Jamaica to four ffatherless unmarried young Women of my Relations equally to be divided between them share and share alike to be paid on the days of their several and respective Marriages and my Will and pleasure is that the persons to each of whom such Legacys are respectively to be paid shall be nominated and chosen by my Executor hereinafter mentioned Item I give and bequeath to Abigail Brandon the widow and Relict of my second son Moses Brandon deceased the sum of Twenty five pounds like Money to be paid to her in full of all Pretensions to or out of my Real or Personal Estate within six calendar Months after my decease Item I give and bequeath to Easter Brandon the Widow and Relict of my late son Aaron Brandon the sum of Ten pounds like Money to be paid to her in full of all Pretensions to or out of my Real or Personal Estate within six calendar Months after my decease Item I give and bequeath to Rebecca Brandon an Orphan of the Age of eight years or thereabouts the Daughter of my late Son Moses Brandon above mentioned and Abigail his Wife the sum of Two thousand pounds like Money to be paid her by my Executor hereafter named on the day of her Intermarriage with David Brandon the son of my Eldest Son Jacob Brandon or upon her being really and Bona fide willing and declaring such her Willingness and consenting to Intermarry with him but in Case the said Rebecca Brandon shall on her attaining her age of Eighteen years refuse to Marry with her said cousin David Brandon or shall Intermarry with any other person than the said David Brandon then my Will is and I do hereby order and direct the said Rebecca Brandon or such other person with whom she shall Intermarry shall on the said Rebecca Brandons Intermarriage with such other person have and receive out of the said Two thousand pounds the sum of Two hundred pounds only and the remaining one Thousand Eight hundred pounds I will shall sink into my Personal Estate for the Benefit and advantage of my Residuary Legatee hereinafter mentioned provided nevertheless that if my said Grandson David Brandon shall refuse to Marry with my said Granddaughter Rebecca Brandon his cousin and that on her attaining her age of eighteen years then and in such case I will the said whole sum of Two thousand pounds be paid to my said Granddaughter on her attaining her age of Twenty one years and I do further Will that from and immediately after the said David Brandon shall so refuse to Marry with his said cousin Rebecca Brandon that she the said Rebecca Brandon shall be then at full Liberty to Marry with any other person she shall think fit provided the same be with the consent of her Mother if Living but if she the said Rebecca Brandon shall dye before such her age of Twenty one years then I do will the said whole sum of Two thousand pounds shall sink into my Personal Estate for the Benefit of my Residuary Legatee hereafter mentioned Item it is my Will and pleasure that my Negro Woman Pencer [?] and her Daughter a Mulatto girl of the age of Thirteen years or thereabouts named Judith and each of them from and immediately after the decease of Rebecca Brandon my Wife have and Enjoy their freedom and I do hereby give and bequeath an Annuity of the Yearly sum of ffive pounds Lawfull Currency of Jamaica to my Son Jacob Brandon and his assigns in Trust for the said Mulatto named Judith to be paid to her till she shall have attain to her age of Twenty one years and no Longer Item it is my will and Pleasure and I do hereby order and Direct that my Executor hereinafter named shall distribute amongst the poor Jews on the Day of my Burial the sum of Ten pounds Lawfull Currency of Jamaica and at the end of seven Days to be computed from thence the further sum of Ten pounds like Money and at the End of Thirty days Ten pounds like Money and at the End of Eleven Months to be computed from the Day of my Death the further sum of Ten pounds according to his discretion Item I give and bequeath to the Synagogue of the Jewish Nation in the Town of Kingston of which I am now an Inhabitant the sum of Thirty pounds like Money as a Legacy to be paid to the Church wardens of the Jewish Synagogue aforesaid for the time being for the use of the said Synagogue one day after the first day of the Expiration of such that shall first happen after my decease Item I give and bequeath the sum of Ten pounds Sterling as a Legacy to the Portugeese Jews Synagogue in London to be remitted thither by my Executor and paid into the hands of the Churchwardens of the said Synagogue for the time being for the use of the said Synagogue Item I give and bequeath to my Niece Ester fforres the sum of Ten pounds Like Money to be paid her at the End of Six months after my decease Item I give and bequeath to my friend Abraham Miranda the sum of Ten pounds like Money to be paid to him in like manner at the End of Six months after my decease Item I give and bequeath to my Son Jacob Brandon the sum of ffive hundred pounds like Current Money as a token of my paternal Affection to him Item I give and devise to my said Grand Daughter Rebecca Brandon one Negro Boy named Quashy one Negro Girl named Phibba and one other Negro Girl named Nimba being the three Negro Children of Penser [Pencer] to none of whom their freedom is given or intended to be given in or by this my Will to hold to her her Heirs and Assigns forever Item I give and bequeath to my dear Wife Rebecca Brandon in lieu and full Barr of her dower of my Estate the sum of four hundred pounds of Lawfull Currency of Jamaica yearly and every year to be paid to her out of all my Estate Real and Personal during the Term of her natural Life the first payment thereof to be made upon the first Day of January which shall happen next after my decease and so upon the first day of January in each and every of the succeeding years for and during the Term of her natural Life and that without any Deduction Defaulcation [?] or Abatement for or by reason of any Taxes Ordinary or Extraordinary already imposed or of any tekuba [ketubah? - A Jewish marriage contract which specifies the groom's obligations to the bride] Executed or made upon my Intermarriage with her my said Wife and it is my Will and Pleasure that my said dear wife Rebecca have and Enjoy the use of my House Negroes for and during the Term of her natural Life and from and after her decease I give and devise my House Negroes and each and every of them and their future Offspring and Increase and I do also give devise and bequeath all the rest residue and remainder of my Estate Real and Personall whatsoever and wheresoever unto my said Grandson David Brandon and to such other Issue as it shall please God to bless my said Son Jacob Brandon with to be divided amongst them at such times and in such manner by my said Son Jacob Brandon as he shall think proper without his being accountable to him them or any of them and in case my said Grandson shall happen to dye without leaving any Issue of his Body and my said Son Jacob Brandon shall have no other child or children then I do give devise and bequeath the same and every part thereof unto my said Son Jacob Brandon his Heirs Executors and Administrators for ever It is my further Will and Pleasure nevertheless and I do expressly order and direct that in case my said Son Jacob Brandon shall resolve with his ffamily to go off and leave this Island then and in such case my said Son Jacob Brandon shall have full power and authority to make Sale and absolutely to dispose of all or any of my Houses and Negroes and of the ffee Simple and Inheritance thereof and shall be at Liberty to dispose of and distribute the produce thereof arising by such Sale or Sales amongst his children in such shares and proportions as to him shall seem meet without his being accountable to his children any or either of them at Law or in Equity for what he shall do or act or cause to be done or acted therein or in Relation thereto any thing to the Contrary thereof in this my last Will & Testament contained or seeming to be contained in any wise notwithstanding and Lastly I do nominate constitute and appoint my said Son Jacob Brandon sole Executor of this my last Will and testament and hereby revoking all and every Will and Wills Wills Testament and Testaments by me at any time or times heretofore made or Published Do declare this to be my last Will and Testament In Witness I Isaac Pereira Brandon of Kingston Merchant having already made and published my last Will bearing even date herewith Do this thirteenth Day of July in the year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred and Thirty eight make and publish this paper Writing which I will be taken and Deemed as part of my last Will and Testament and I do hereby give and bequeath unto the Wife of my Cousin David Brandon and her Maiden Sister in Holland the sum of Twenty pounds Current Money of this Island to be equally divided between them and to be remitted them by my Executor in my said Will named within one Month next after my Decease I do also give my Neice Rachell Torres of Kingston Widow five pounds like Money I give to my Nephew Isaac Pinto of Spanish Town five pounds like Money I give to my Nephew Daniel Pinto of Kingston five pounds like Money and I do give to my Nephew Jacob Pinto of Kingston five pounds like Money I give to Sarah Brandon of Spanish Town Widow of the Relict of Joshua Brandon deceased five pounds like Money I give to Sarah Campos the Wife of Abraham Campos of Kingston five pounds like Money and I do also give to Sarah Lopes Periera of Kingston Widow the sum of ffive pounds like Money and I do also give to Moses Cohen De Sara Reader of the Jews Synagogue in Kingston ffive pounds like Money which several sums hereinbefore bequeathed I will be respectively paid within one Month next after my decease by my said Executor And Lastly I do declare this Codicil to be part of my last Will and Testament and do Will the same be deemed and taken as such in Witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and Seal the said 13 day of July 1738 - Isaac Pa. Memd[?] the Tenth day of April One thousand Seven hundred and fforty personally came and appeared before me Joseph Pereira and made Oath upon the five Books of Moses that he was present and did see Isaac Periera Brandon the Testator within mentioned being then of sound Mind and Memory Sign Seal Publish and declare the within written Instrument to be his last will and Testament and the Codicil hereunto annexed to be deemed and taken as part and parcell thereof and that at the same time Isaac ffeutado and Richard Parker were also present and together with him subscribed their names as Witnesses to the same in the presence of the said Testator and further that he knows nothing of any other Will or Codicil since made by the said Testator which may tend to the Disadvantage of the will within written and codicil hereunto annexed - Edn Trelawny

Appeared personally Samuel Williams of the parish of Saint James Westminster in the County of Middlesex Esq. and late Deputy Secretary of his Majesty's Island of Jamaica and made Oath that the Paper Writing hereunto annexed purporting to be a Copy of the last Will and Testament of Isaac Pereira Brandon late of Kingston in the said Island of Jamaica deced. is as this Deponent verily believes a true Copy of the last Will and Testament of him the said deceased now remaining in the Secretarys Office of Inrollments of the said Island of Jamaica and that the name Saml. Williams Sec. J thereto subscribed is the proper hand Writing of him this Deponent - Saml. Williams The said Samuel Williams Esqr. was sworn to the truth of this Affidavit Before me Robt. Chapman Surrogate - Present Henr: Farrant [?] Not. Pub.

On the ninth Day of March in the year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred and fforty eight administration (with the Will and Codicil annexed) of the Goods Chattels and Credits of Isaac Pereira Brandon late of the parish of Kingston in the Island of Jamaica deceased was granted to David Magadoura the Uncle and Curator or Guardian lawfully assigned to David Brandon otherwise David Brandon Mogadoura a Minor the only child of Jacob Brandon deceased and as such the Guardian of the said deceased and only residuary Legatee named in the said Will and Codicil for that the said Jacob Brandon the Son of the said deceased and sole Executor therein named dyed before he had taken upon him the Execution thereof for the use and Benefit of the said Minor and untill he shall attain the Age of twenty one years being first sworn duly to administer.

On the twelfth Day of December in the Year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred and fforty nine Administration with the Will and Codicil annexed of the Goods Chattels and Credits of Isaac Pereira Brandon late of the Parish of Kingston in the Island of Jamaica deceased was granted to Sarah Dias ffernandes otherwise Sarah Vianna [?] Spinster Administratrix (with the will annexed) of the Goods of David Brandon otherwise David Brandon Mogadoura deceased (whilst living) the only Child of Jacob Brandon deceased and as such the Grandson and only residuary Legatee named in the said Will and Codicil being first sworn duly to Administer The said Jacob Brandon Son of the Testator and sole Executor named and residuary Legatee substituted in the said Will and Codicil dying without having taken upon him the Execution thereof and in the Lifetime of the said David Brandon otherwise David Brandon Mogadoura and the said David Brandon otherwise David Brandon Mogadoura dying without Issue And the Letters of Administration (with the said Will and Codicil annexed) of the Goods of the said deceased heretofore to wit, in the Month of March last granted to David Mogadoura the Uncle and Curator or Guardian lawfully assigned to the said David Brandon otherwise David Brandon Mogadoura then a Minor for his use and benefit and untill he should attain the Age of twenty one years being ceased and expired by reason of his death. /. Will of Jacob Rodrigues Brandon

In the Name of God Amen I Jacob Rodrigues Brandon of the Parish of Kingston in the County of Surry and Island aforesaid Merchant having taken into consideration the uncertainty of this transitory life and the Duty incumbent on me of Disposing of all my worldly Affairs Do while in a sound state of mind make this my last Will and Testament most humbly recommending my soul to the infinite worries of the supreme being my Body to be Decently interred as my Executors herein after named shall Direct in the Jews Burying Ground in Kingston Imprimis I will and Direct that all my just Debts which I may owe at the time of my Decease together with my ffuneral Expenses be fully paid and satisfied and to this end and Purpose I bind and make subject and liable all my Estate both Real and personal of what nature or kind soever.

Item I give and bequeath unto my natural son called and known by the name of Jacob Harding And son of Anna Harding of the Parish of St Clement in the Strand in the City of London in the Kingdom of Great Britain Singlewoman the Sum of Eight hundred pounds Sterling Money of Great Britain to be paid him when he arrisses at the age of twenty one years and in case of his Death without lawful Issue before he attains that Age then to sink into and become part and parcel of the residue of my----- Estate Item I give and bequeath unto my Sister Rebecca Brandon of the City of London Spinster the Sum of five hundred pounds Sterling money of Great Britain Item I give and bequeath unto Jacob Pereira of the Parish of Kingston in the County of Surry and Island aforesaid Gentleman the Sum of One hundred pounds Sterling money of Great Britain Item I give and bequeath unto David Mendes Henriques of the Parish of Kingston in the County and Island aforesaid Gentleman the Sum of fifty pounds of like Sterling Money Item I give and bequeath unto Thomas Paaton? of the same place Gentleman the Sum of twenty pounds Sterling Item I give and bequeath unto Raphael Arges? my present Clerk the Sum of fifty pounds of like Sterling Money all which Legacys I will and Direct may be paid out of my Estate as soon as conveniently can be after my Decease and as to touching? and concerning all the Rest Residue and Remainder of my Estate both Real and Personal of what nature or kind soever or wheresoever I give Devise and bequeath the same unto my dear Brother Daniel Brandon Seixas of the City of London Merchant to hold to him and his Heirs forever and Lastly I Do inever nominate constitute and appoint my said Brother Daniel Brandon Seixas and my friends Joseph Henriques junior Moses Henriques and Abraham Aguilar all of the parish of Kingston in the County of Surry and Island aforesaid Gentlemen Executors of this my will hereby revoking all former and other Wills by me at any------- time heretofore made hereby Declaring carifying and confirming this only to be my last Will and Testament and I also request my said Executors acceptance of twenty pounds of like Sterling Money each to purchase mourning Inwitness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal the twenty first day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy five. This Will was proved at London the seventeenth day of December in the year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and seventy six before the worshipful Andrew Coltee Ducarel Doctor of Laws Surrogate of the Right worshipful Sir George Hay Knight Doctor of Laws Master Keeper of Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the Oath of Daniel Brandon Seixas the Brother of the deceased and one of the Executors named in the said Will to whom Administration was granted of all and singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased having been first sworn duly to Administer Power reserved of ... making the life grant to Joseph Henriques junior Moses Henriques and Abraham Aguilar the other Executors named in the said Will when they or either of them shall apply for the same.


Will of Thomas Gunter

  THIS IS THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT
Of me Thomas Gunter late of number fifty eight Hogarth road, South Kensington in the County of Middlesex but now of Melbourne House, Ventnor, in The Isle of Wight, gentleman. I direct my just debts, funeral and testamentary expenses to be paid out of my personal estate by my executors hereinafter named and subject thereto. I give and bequeath to my dear wife Annie Gunter for her own absolute use and benefit the sum of two thousand pounds, new three per cent Consolidated bank annuities being part of the larger sum of four thousand pounds of the same stock now standing in my name in the Books of the Bank of England. I also give and bequeath the sum of five hundred pounds of the aforesaid stock to my son William Henry Gunter, the sum of five hundred pounds of the aforesaid stock to my son Thomas Gunter, the sum of five hundred pounds of the aforesaid stock to my daughter Clara Lundie relict of William Lundie deceased, and the sum of five hundred pounds of the aforesaid stock to my daughter Mary Campbell wife of George Campbell for her own sole and separate use, I also give and bequeath my moiety or half share of and in the leasehold house fifty eight Hogarth Road Kensington aforesaid to my daughter Lydia Jane Hendricks the wife of Cecil Morgan Hendricks and Alice Gunter spinster equally as tenants in common. I give and bequeath to my said sons William Henry Gunter and Thomas Gunter in equal shares the money or half share to which I shall or may be entitled on the death of Margaret Rennalls of and in the sum of one thousand pounds new three per cent Consolidated bank annuities now standing in the names of my son Charles Edmund Gunter and myself in the Books of the Bank of England and I wish it to be known and to declare by this my will that I have not made my said son Charles Edmund Gunter a legatee because he has already acquired property equally with myself under the will of my late aunt Mrs Jane O Loughlin widow. I give device and bequeath all the rest residue and remainder (if any) of the real and personal property of which I may die seized or possessed to my said son a Thomas Gunter his heirs executors administrators and assigns absolutely and I hereby appoint my said wife Annie Gunter and my said son Thomas Gunter EXECUTORS of this my will in witness whereof I have hereto set my hand this fifteenth day of January one thousand eight hundred and eighty one -   THOMAS GUNTER  - signed and declared by the said Thomas Gunter the testator as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us present the same time who at his request in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses H.
