2. Garret 2 Burke (?1) was born Abt. 1732, and died October 1775. He met (1) Betty Martial. He met (2) (a Negro).

Notes for Garret Burke:

WILL of Garrett Burke of the parish of St. John, planter, being of sound mind and memory and understanding do make public and declare this to be my last Will and Testament.... I give devise and bequeath unto a free Negro woman named Betty Martial one Negro woman slave named Chloe with her future issue and increase and 30 acres of land situate in the parish of Saint John at a place called the Prospect being that part of 131 acres which I lately purchased from Messrs. Blake and Ferguson or in any other part she chooses of the said place called Prospect and I further desire that my Executors will build or cause to be built a commodious dwelling house for the said Betty Martial and her children on the said thirty acres of land and until the said house is finished I desire that she and her children may have free liberty to reside in my present dwelling house on said Prospect to hold the said land and Negroes with her future increase for and during the term of her natural life and after her decease I give devise and bequeath the same and every part thereof with the appurtenances and future increase unto and between her two mulatto daughters named Fanny Burke and Catherine Burke and the survivor of them share and share alike to the issue of their body or bodys of such survivor forever but in default of such issue the same to revert back and become part of the residuum of my estate.

Item. I give devise and bequeath unto my reputed mulatto daughter Fanny Burke three Negroes named Clive Prudence and Granby, with the future increase of the said female slaves to hold forever to her and the issue of her body and in default of such issue to the use and behoof of her sister Catherine Burke and the issue of her body forever but in default of such issue as aforesaid then the said slaves with the future issue to be and revert back to and become part of the residuum of my estate.

Item. I give devise and bequeath unto my reputed mulatto daughter Catherine Burke three Negroes named David Jack and Nancy with her future issue to hold to her and the issue of her body forever and in default of such issue to the use and behoof of her sister Fanny Burke and the issue of her body forever but in default of such issue as aforesaid then the said slaves with the future issue to be and revert back to and become part of the residuum of my estate..... The rest residue and remainder of my estate real and personal I give devise and bequeath unto my loving brother Anthony Burke now in the island of Jamaica to hold to him his heirs and assigns forever.

Lastly I nominate constitute and appoint my friends Patrick Blake of the parish of St. John planter Edward Bytagh of the same parish planter James Coughlan and Charles Prendergast Senior of the parish of St. Thomas in the East planter trustee and executors of this my last Will and Testament. Codicil: I do hereby confirm and allow the foregoing to be my last Will and Testament and do make this as a Codicil to the same which I will require may be taken and received as part thereof Whereas I have omitted in my said last Will and Testament leaving my two mulatto daughters Henrietta Burke and Jenny Burke any land or house to reside in I do hereby give and bequeath unto my said reputed mulatto daughters Henrietta Burke and Jenny Burke 30 acres of land situate in the parish of St. Johns at a place called Prospect either on that part of the 131 acres which I lately purchased of Messrs Blake and Ferguson or in any other part that they or their guardian my choose And further desire that my Executors or either of them will build or cause to be built a commodious dwelling house on the said 30 acres of land and until the said house is finished I desire that they may have free liberty to reside in my present dwelling house on said Prospect to hold the said land share alike and to the issue of their body or bodies of such survivor forever but in default of such issue to revert back to and become part of the residuum of my estate....
