WILL OF ABEDNEGO GARRIGUES of St. Thomas in the Vale.

I give to my dearly beloved sister Mary Margaret Harris of Kingston, widow, the full sum of £100 to be paid to her as soon as the same can be raised out of the monies due and owing to me.

I give unto me dearly beloved daughter Jane Frances the sum of £200 to be laid out in two negroes and rented out at a make good lease the rents thereof to be applied for her use. I also give her a negro woman named Rebecca Brown alias Beck and her children Lucky and John and a negro girl named We.

I give unto my amiable and much beloved wife a mulatto and her son James.

The rest residue and remainder of my estate I give to my dearly beloved sons Peter Francis and Henry Lord share and share alike when they severally attain the age of 21 years. . .

I hereby consider as part of my personal estate my wife's dower [? or ?] arising from Springhead Penn in the Parish of St. Mary, the amount of which when raised in money together with the monies due and owing to me to be laid out in the purchase of new Negroes and the same rented out on a make good lease, the rents and profits whereof for the use of my said sons in the manner above mentioned.

I appoint my amiable and much beloved wife together with my friends Robert Souper [?] Bayley, and Henry Redwar to be my executrix and executors and guardians of my said dearly beloved children. . .

CODICIL: It is my meaning that my said wife shall have full liberty to live and reside on my property during her life and to take the rents and profits, after her decease to revert as in my will to my sons. For Doctor Brammer's kindness to me during my illness I request if upon settlement of our old accounts any balance may be due to me I hereby discharge him therefrom and appoint him also an executor to this my last will and testament. WILL of JOHN FRANCIS GARRIGUES: ...as to my temporal estate I bequeath and dispose thereof as follows WHEREAS I have a part or share of and in divers negro and other slaves lately belonging to my late mother Margaret Garrigues of Kingston widow deceased I do hereby give, devise and bequeath the same and every part thereof unto my dear wife Lusina Garrigues for and during so long time as she shall remain a widow and from and after her decease or intermarriage I give and devise and bequeath the same unto and amongst all and every my children that shall be then living and to their heirs for ever equally to be divided between them share and share alike

AND all the rest residue and remainder of my real and personal estate whatsoever in Eustatia Curacao North America or in this island I do hereby order and direct to be divided into thirds, and do hereby (after payment of my debts and funeral charges) give devise and bequeath one third part thereof to my said wife to be at her own disposal and the remaining two thirds I give and devise to and amongst all and every my children that shall living at the time of my decease and to their heirs for equally to be divided between them share and share alike, and for the better management of my affairs and interest in Eustatia, I nominate and appoint Jasper Ellis Esquire of Eustatia aforesaid to be my executor, desiring him to see that my family be not wronged in that my interest there.

I also give to my daughter Mary Margaret a negro girl named Bessy to hold to her and her heirs forever.

And to my son Francis Peter Garrigues my negro boy named Billy to hold to him and his heirs forever.

All the residue of my estate above devised I do hereby declare to be in this manner the whole to remain in the hands of and to be held and enjoyed by my said wife for and during so long time as she shall remain a widow and from and after her decease or intermarriage I give and devise one third part thereof to my said wife for her own and separate use and the remainder to my children as above devised.

AND I do constitute my said wife sole executrix for my affairs in this island and guardian for my children until they generally attain their ages of 21 years. . .
