Precis:

 

This man was a planter who owned 239 slaves, two houses, an overseer’s house and sugar making equipment including a boiling house.

      George the3rd by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland King and of Jamaica Lord Defender of the Faith

 To our Trusty and well beloved Patrick Bremner & George Malcolm Esqrs

 Know ye that we have Constituted authorised and appointed and by these presents do constitute authorise and appoint Ye or either of Ye to administer an oath unto William Brown and Joseph Brissett Esquires that they shall well and truly and according to the best of their Judgements and consciences inventory and appraise all and singular the goods and chattels rights and Credits of William Clarke late of the parish of Hanover Esquire deceased according as they shall be shewn unto them by George Brissett his surviving Executor or which they know did belong to the said deceased at the time of her decease and therefore You or Either of You are to make a due return under Your or Either of Your Hands and Seals unto our General and Commander in Chief of our said Island or to the Governor or Commander in Chief of the same for the time being with this power annexed so that the inventory or appraisement may be filed and recorded in the Secretarys office Witness His Honn George Nugent Esq Lt Governor & Commander in Chief of our said Island at Saint Jago de la Vega the 22nd day of April anno q Domini 1803 and in the 43 year of our Reign~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~G Nugent

 His Hon George Nugent Esqr  Lt Governor and Commander in Chief in and over this His Majestys Island of Jamaica and office the territories thereon depending in America ordinary and Sole Judge  for the probate of wills and granting Letters of administration ToWilliam Brown & Joseph Brissett Esqrs 

These are in His Majestys Name to will and require you to inventory and appraise all and singular the goods and chattels Rights and Credits  of William Clarke late of parish of Hanover Esquire deceased according as they shall be shewn unto You by George Brissett his surviving Executor  or which You know did belong to the said deceased at the timme of her[his] decease this You are to perform according to the best of Your Judgements and Consciences and thereof to make a due return under Your Hands and Seals  unto the Secretarys office of this Island within Six months after the date hereof or within such time as the ordinary of this island for the time being shall appoint for that purpose to the End the same may be filed and recorded

In obedience to the warrant of appraisement hereunto annexed we have inventoried and appraised all and singular the Goods Chattels reights and Credits which were of William Clarke late of the parish of Hanover Esquire deceased as they were shewn unto us by George Brissett Esquire his surviving Executor  or which we know did belong to the deaeased at the time of his death and we find that the same amounts to the sum of Twenty thousand eight hundred and forty five pounds Fifteen Shillings   current money of Jamaica as above set forth.
