DIED :

In Spanish Town, Edward Y. Woodcock, Esq. of St. Thomas in the Vale.

At Blue Hill, in Hanover, last Sunday, Miss Kitty James, daughter of John Robert James, Esq.

MISCELLANEOUS:

Mr. Bryan Edwards, in a London newspaper of the 8th of October, has announced his intention of publishing a Supplement to his History of the West Indies, containing, among other things, "a brief history of the troubles, insurrections, massacres, and revolutions which have taken place in the island of St. Domingo, or Hispaniola, from the year 1788 to the present time; their causes and probable consequences; with some account of the former and present state of such part of that island as belonged to the French government, its soil, cultivation, produce, and exports. Complied partly from information collected by the author on the spot, in the latter end of 1791, and partly from authentic communications received from St. Domingo since that time.

The author takes this opportunity to caution the public against a mutilated and surreptitious edition of his History of the West Indies, lately published by J. Parsons, Pater Noster Row; and J. Bell, Oxford Street; under the title of "An Abridgment." For so gross an invasion of his bookseller's property, he presumes the law will afford satisfaction: But no legal redress can atone for the injury aimed by the compiler of this abridgment at the author's reputation, in ascribing to him sentiments on the subject of the slave trade and slavery, which he never uttered or conceived; and principles which he totally disavows and disclaims.
