MARRIED :

At Bristol, in September last, Henry B. Cuniffe, Esq. of this island, to Miss Martha Jones, youngest daughter of Thomas Jones, Esq. Merchant, of Bristol.

In Spanish Town, on Thursday last, Mr. Jacob Corea, to Mrs. Sarah Mendes Pereira, relict of Mr. Jacob M. Pereira.

DIED :

In England, Joseph Tharpe, Esq. eldest son of the Hon. John Tharpe Esq.

Bayly, son of Nathaniel Bayly, Esq.

Walter Murray, Esq. and Mrs. Henderson, wife of John Henderson, Esq.

At Heywood Hall, on the 15th last, Miss Catherine Frances Bucknor, youngest daughter of John Bucknor, Esq. dec.

In Spanish Town, Mrs. Sarah Dove, aged 92 years; and Mrs. Sarah Booth, aged 90 years.

In this town, Charles Fuhr, Esq. of the house of Hibbert and Fuhr; Mr. William Glass, lately from Philadelphia; and Mr. Elias Depass, vendue cryer.

On the 27th ultimo, died at Melrose, in Clarendon, John Waugh, Esq. greatly lamented by an extensive circle of friends and acquaintance, and the next day his remains were interred at the same place, with much solemnity... He was snatched by a putrid fever in the course of a few days... Mr. Waugh left his native country at an early period of life, being only in the 13th year of his age, and during a residence of 33 years in this island, he enjoyed a large portion of health...

Montego Bay, November 22, 1794 - Suddenly, on the 23rd of October, in America, on his passage from New York to Rhoda Island, John Henry, Esq. of the American Company of Comedians, formerly in this island.

At Cousin's Cove, in Hanover, the 18th last in advanced age, Mr. John Grizell.

At John's Hall, in this parish, Mrs. Mary Hine, widow of Mr. Joseph Hine; and Mrs. Leah Gedelia.

At Martha Brae, on the 18th last, Captain Benjamin Wright, of Rhode Island. He was for a number of years a reputable Merchant at Savanna la Mar.

 

MISCELLANEOUS :

Lord Balcarras, the newly appointed Governor of Jamaica, was expected to sail from England the latter end of October.

The ships from Africa had only 35 days passage, and brought 770 slaves, addressed to Messrs. Taylor, Ballantine, and Fairlie.

On the 12th of September last, the University of Edinburgh was pleased to confer the honour of a degree of Doctor of Physic on Francis Rigby Brodbelt, M.A. son of Dr. Brodbelt, physician, in Jamaica.

Sep 9 - His Majesty has been pleased to appoint Lieutenant Colonels William Madox Richardson, 64th foot, and Alexander Mercer, of the Engineers, to be Colonels in the Army.

Majors Hon. George Rawdon, 16th foot, Hon. Thomas Maitland, 62nd foot; Henry Elwes, 22nd foot; Oliver Lambert, 3rd foot; John Cochran, 1st foot; Lachlan McLachlan, 10th foot; Wm. Browne, 14th foot; John Barker, 10th foot; and Robert Lindsay, 22nd foot; to be Lieut. Colonels in the Army.
