The recent heavy weather on Saturday night the 11th, and Sunday 12th has, it appears, caused serious damage to several vessels, two of which have been obliged to put into Falmouth in distress.
On Friday morning last the Brigantine Empress of Halifax, Captain Mattson, in ballast, on a voyage from Kingston to Inagua for salt, came into Falmouth under jury masts, in distress, the winds on Sunday night having carried away her sails and masts, and inflicting other injuries on the vessel. The Empress encountered the deserted hull of a Barque about 42 miles off the coast of Ocho Rios.
On Saturday morning last the Brigantine Chilian, of Lunenburgh, Dominion of Canada, was boarded out at sea by Mr. George Delisser.  She encountered the gale on Saturday night, and all her sails and spars and galley were completely carried away.  She was also in ballast from Kingston for Inagua to load salt.
