WESLEYAN COLLEGE

The following account is from Messrs. J. Murray Auld and Cos. Jamaica Pocket Book Almanack for 1876 (which we have just received):
"The Wesleyan High School long contemplated by that Body is expected to open early in the year.  York Castle, a property in the lofty part of the mountains of St. Ann, with about 1,100 acres of land, has been purchased, and the House which is very spacious is being put in thorough repair, as well as the out-buildings.  There are few, if any residences in the Island, commanding a more extensive and enchanting prospect.  At the foot of the hill on which the house stands lie the beautiful undulating Pedro Plains covered with Pens in high cultivation.  On the North-east the eye ranges over Annandale, the property of T. F. Roxburgh Esq., until it catches a glimpse of the Sea beyond Ocho Rios; while on the South east the view extends over the Diabolo range until bounded in the distance by the Blue Mountains. . . The distance of York Castle from the Finger Post at Claremont is about 6 miles on a good road."
The Revd. George Sargeant is appointed Governor of the Institution.  Competent teachers have been selected by the Directors of the Wesleyan Missionary Society in England.

THE REVENUE DEPARTMENT

Mr. Henry Fletcher, who during the last 2 years was Assistant-Collector of Taxes in the parish of Hanover has been removed to Dry Harbour, and Mr. Spalding has taken his place in Lucea.
