A "prisonnier sur parole": A 'prisoner' who was not confined to a jail. He was left a certain amount of liberty, on the condition that he would deliver himself up to justice if it was required of him. This is not the same as our modern 'prisoner on parole.'

A "prisonnier de guerre," prisoner of war, a military taken in combat.

Gabriel, a Spaniard, dies in the house of Mr. Clerk the watchmaker, buried 1/15/1796 in the consecrated ground in Kingston. [p. 4]

Garel, Elizabeth Banners, widow of de la Minardais by first marriage, wife by second marriage of Etienne Garel, entrepreneur of building and other construction from St. Domingue. She died on the morning of 4/22; buried Saturday 4/23/1796 at 8 a.m. in the cemetery of the Roman Catholic Church in Kingston. Witnesses: DeGournay, Moulansim, Dusaint Chatain, J. Muloniere, Rocheplatte, Lalanne de Beaumarain, Delabiche senior, Le Sevre, Poirrier junior, Armaignac, De Lauzon, L. Dujardin. [in French. p. 5v]

Gaspar, a Spaniard, who died aboard a Spanish frigate, a prize, 12/11/1796 in the consecrated ground in Kingston. [p. 9]

Gazean, Charles Augustin, born in St. Flaive des Loups, diocese of Lucon, province of Poitou in France, bodyguard of the King of France, and officer in the service of British crown in St. Domingue, buried 11/22/1798, in the cemetery of the Roman Catholic Church in Kingston. Witnesses: Duboisqueheneux, knight; du Chatellier, knight; Joseph de Letour; Dupin; D'Anglave; Victor Pechmiyairal; Henry Delmerdes. [in French, p. 21]

Grenier, Jean, aged about 32 years, native of the city of Agen, province of Guyenne [France], inhabitant of St. Domingue, died 4/16/1799, buried 4/17/1799 in the Kingston Roman Catholic Church cemetery. His parents' names are not known to the witnesses. Witnesses: Lemoyne, Lajeune, Guillon. [in French. p. 25v]

Gudin Marie Catherine Louise Elisabeth, minor daughter of the late Martin Gudin inhabitant of St. Domingue and of Louise Cavenet du Verger his wife, died 7/25/1799 in Kingston, buried 7/26/1799. Witnesses: Jean Duval, Pierre Francois de l'Espinasse, priest. [in French. p. 28]


Harrington, John, an Irishman and chief mate of the ship Maria from Exeter, under Captain Barry from Cork, buried 6/7/1796 in the consecrated ground in Kingston. [p. 7]

Harrison, Samuel, a black slave male child, 9/19/1796 in the consecrated ground in Kingston. [p. 8v]

Hugo from the North of Island, "as I was told, he died in the house of Robert Clerk the watchmaker." 2/12/1796 in the consecrated ground in Kingston. [p. 4v]

Jacobo, a Spaniard 7/23/1796 in the consecrated ground in Kingston. [p. 7v]

John a Spaniard, died of smallpox in the house of Mr. Clerk the watchmaker. He was a black or sambo man. Buried 1/21/1796 in the consecrated ground in Kingston. [p. 4v]

John a native of St. Croix, died in the house of Mrs. Hayman, next door to Peter McDonald, east end of Kingston. Buried 4/27/1796 in the consecrated ground in Kingston. [p. 5v]

John a Spaniard, died in Mr. Pepe's house. Buried 5/16/1796 in the consecrated ground in Kingston. [p. 6]

John a Spaniard, "died in the house of a Jew opposite to Mr. Silver, where Dereno was at the same time." Buried 5/17/1796 in the consecrated ground in Kingston. [p. 6v]

John a Spaniard, "he died aboard, and was brought to the home of a Spaniard where Clerk the watchmaker lives." Buried 8/31/1797 in the consecrated ground in Kingston. [p. 12v]

John Baptiste, a Spaniard died in Ephia's house. Buried 5/9/1796 in the consecrated ground in Kingston. [p. 6v]

Joseph, Antonio, a Spaniard who died of smallpox in Mr. Peire's [? ink blot] house. Buried 2/25/1796 [in French p. 1]

Joseph, a Portuguese, 9/28/1795 in the consecrated ground in Kingston. He died in Richard Martin's house. [p. 3]

Joseph, a Spaniard, 10/6/1795, in the consecrated ground in Kingston. [p. 3]

Joseph, a young Spanish man. "He died in the house of Gitoro Don Gregorio did since after Debora." Buried 3/31/1796. [p. 5]

Joseph, a Spaniard. "He departed this life in the house of Fernandus, a man of colour and a Spaniard" on 12/7/1796. Buried 12/8/1796 in the consecrated ground in Kingston. [p. 9]

Joseph, a Spaniard, who died at Mr. Pepe's house opposite to Mr. Silver, 1/30/1797 in the consecrated ground in Kingston. [p. 9v]

Joseph Maria, a Spaniard, died in Mr. Pepe's house. Buried 5/3/1796 in the consecrated ground in Kingston. [p. 6v]

Josephina, a French female child, 9/10/1795, in the consecrated ground in Kingston. [p.2v]

Julien, Jean Maria, a French officer belonging to the Republican brig taken by His Majesty's ship Alfred, who died in Mrs. Gracy Winter's lodging house in Matthew's Lane, buried 8/11/1796 in the consecrated ground in Kingston. [p. 7v]

Labarthe, William, aged 18 months, 9/19/1796 in the consecrated ground in Kingston. [p. 8]

LaBastille, Marie Adelaide, aged about 22 years, free girl of color, illegitimate child of Renale LaBastille, 6/20/1798 in the Kingston Roman Catholic Church cemetery. Witness: A. Onffroy. [p. 17v]

La Bourdette, Mrs., widow, aged about 72 years, inhabitant of the Quartier du Nord, St. Domingue, buried at 7 a.m. 10/12/1796. Witnesses: Dujardin, DesChampis, A. Waln ?. [in French, p. 8v]

Lamaille, Jean Pierre, legitimate son of the late Jean Lamaille and Louise Perrat, aged 27 months, native of Port au Prince, Parish of L'Assomption, died this morning, buried 9/6/1798 at 5:00 p.m. in the Kingston Roman Catholic cemetery. Witnesses: E. J. Allard, Pointier, Beaumont. [in French, p. 18v]

LeCarpentier, Aglae, aged about 22 years, at present a prisoner of war ("prisonnier de guerre") in this city, daughter of Charles LeCarpentier, inhabitant of the L'Anse quarter, Parish of Coteaux, St. Domingue, buried 6/6/1797 at 6:00 p.m. in the Kingston Roman Catholic cemetery. Witnesses: DeLabiche, Chevalier [knight] Onffroy, Nicolas, J. Muloniere, Fournier de l'Hermitage. [in French, p. 11v]

LeCou, Louis Anne, naive of Vazie [Vassy?] in Bretagne [France], 10/12/1798 at 8:00 p.m. in the Catholic cemetery, Kingston. Witnesses: Brezeau, Peonopooriges, Agustin deSouza. [in French, p. 19v]

LeMercier de Boigerard, Pierre Donnatien Prudent, "prisonnier de guerre" (prisoner of war), died 5/8/1797 in Kingston at 5:30 p.m., native of the city of Nantes in the province of Bretagne, age 27 to 28 years, buried 5/9/1797. Witnesses Pierre Marie DeBinns, Jean N. Louis Allot, C. Georgers, Maillette, L. Lanoix, Lagantraye, Fournier de L'Hermitage. [in French, p. 11v]

Leo, Francisco, who died aboard ship and was brought to Mr. Pepe's house, buried 10/30/1796 in the consecrated ground in Kingston. [p. 9]

L'Olanie, Piere; inhabitant of St: Domingue, prisoner of war in Jamaica, 7/1/1798 in the Kingston Catholic cemetery. Witnesses: Rostan, Perry, Sebastien Couppe, Jeanbaptiste, Brouet. [in French, p. 18]


Mahe, Julien Jacques Marie Claude de Launay, aged about 47 years, inhabitant of the western and southern provinces of St. Domingue, refugee in Kingston, died 7/7/1799, buried 7/8/1799 in the cemetery of the Kingston Roman Catholic chapel. Witnesses: Fourmier de l'Hermitage, Rouziers, Lalanne de Beaumaraix, Peyrellade, de Leonardy, Arras. [in French, p. 27v]

Mahoney, Darly, Lieutenant in the 3rd Regiment of the Irish Brigades, 8/27/1796 in the consecrated ground in Kingston. [p. 8]

Manly John, an Irishman and sailor on the ship Maria from Exeter under Captain Michael Barry from Cork, June 29, 1796 in the consecrated ground in Kingston. [p. 7]

Maria a Curacao woman, "she lived with the same man that Hannah Tino lived with next door to me in West Street." Buried 3/29/1979 in the consecrated ground in Kingston. [p. 10v]

Maria a French sambo woman, she came to Kingston from Martinique with Mr. Gross. Nancy Como had care of the funeral, 6/13/1798 in the consecrated ground in Kingston. [p. 16].

Maria Luisa, a female slave child, "granddaughter of Lucy, deceased, and slave belonging to Sally Shaw" 3/29/1797 in the consecrated ground in Kingston. [p. 10v]

Marie Alexandrine Charlotte Adelaide, a French mulatto female child, baptized 9/14/1796, buried 9/23/1796 in the consecrated ground in Kingston. [p. 8v]

Mark a Spaniard, died in Pepe's house. Buried 4/10/1798 in the consecrated ground in Kingston. [p. 16v]

Mauhan, Justine Geverineau, aged 19 months, legitimate daughter of ---- [blot] Guerineau Mauhan and Victoire Petireau, inhabitant of St. Domingue. Buried 11/19/1798 in the Catholic cemetery in Kingston. [in French. p. 20v]

Michael, a Spaniard who died on board a ship "and was carried into my house" [Revd. Quigly], buried 10/21/1795 in the consecrated ground in Kingston. [p. 3v]

Millet, Louise, Miss, native of Strasbourg, aged 43 years, died 12/23/1796 after a long lingering illness, formerly resident of St. Marc, St. Domingue, buried 12/24/1796 in the Strangers' Burial Ground, Kingston. Witnesses: Plessey, Ecoffery. [in French, p. 9v]

Molare, Jacques, native of Bordeau, aged 45 years, married in Cap Francois, St. Domingue, buried 2/27/1799. Witnesses: Louis Duder, Roux, Eparageau. [in French, p. 25]

Montane, Pierre, aged about 43 years, native of Nantes in Bretagne [France], and inhabitant of the north of St. Domingue, 8/19/1797 in the Kingston Roman Catholic cemetery. Witnesses: Perrier, Rostan, Mazel, Biffari, Bombe, de Leonardy. [in French, p. 13]

Morel, Bonne Catherine Duverger, aged about 43 years, wife of Mr. Morel presently in France, former inhabitant of the Cayes, St. Domingue, 7/7/1797 at 9:00 a.m. in the Kingston Roman Catholic cemetery. Witnesses: L. Lanoix, Peychaud, J. Muloniere, W. G. Warren. [in French, p. 12v]

Moreno, Francisco, buried 8/27/1796 in the new burying ground. "I sung a Solemn Mass for him the same morning." [p. 8]
