ROMAN CATHOLIC BAPTISMS 1813-1817
D - L
All baptisms were performed by the curate of the Roman Catholic church in Kingston, Juan Jacinto Rodrigues de Araujo (when writing in Spanish), (Jean Hyacinthe Rodrigues d'Araujo when writing in French), except for a declaration on page 128 by Guillaume Lecun. Please note that the names in the Register were also affected by the language in which he was writing, for example 'Mary' in English would have been written 'Marie' in French, and 'Maria' in Spanish.
Some words used here:
Chevalier -- knight
Creole - meaning one born in that location
Inhabitant - translation from the French of 'habitant,' which when used in St. Domingue usually implied the owner of a 'habitation.'

R. d'Araujo Curate of the Roman Catholic Church in Kingston as depository of the registers of Baptisms, Marriages and Burials held for several years by the former curates, notably those held by the Revd. Bazile Suarez de Lema during the years 1804 and 1805 hereby declare that it was certified by Mr. Antoine Leonard and by Miss Marie Anne free Negro, residents in Kingston, that on 5/5/1805 they presented and held over the baptismal font a child born in Kingston 3/19/1804 named Joseph Leonard, to whom the sacrament of baptism was administered by the said Revd. B. S. de Lema, that the godparents were Jacques Eduard Laroche and Marie Delateronnie, that many other persons were present at the baptism of the said child, that having since requested that the certificate of this baptism be sent to them, they were unable to obtain it, which leads them to believe it was not sent, requested me to search for the deed and if it could not be found to accept their declaration and that of the godparents and others who were present to verify it, and get it put in the Register.
