D'AQUIN

Antoine Benoist d'Aquin married Jeanne Renee Garnier.

We do not know when or where they were married, but we are informed that in the Contract of Marriage Antoine Benoist d'Aquin is described as "OFFICIER DES TROUPES DETACHEES DE LA MARINE DU MISSISSIPPI".

The Issue of Antoine Benoist d'Aquin and his wife Jeanne Renee Garnier, were:

Antoine Pierre d'Aquin, Esquire, who was born at Fort Conde de la Mobile, and who married in Saint Domingue West Indies, Marguerite Pierrette Charlotte Bizonton, daughter of Mr. Charles Nicholas Bizonton "GARDE DE SCEAUX ET CONSEILLER AU CONSEIL SOUVERAIN DE LEOGANE."

Antoine Pierre d'Aquin is described as "ECRIVAIN PRINCIPAL DE LA MARINE, COMMISSAIRE A SAINT LOUIS, QUARTIER DE L'ARTIBONITE DE SAINT-DOMINGO". (See St. Domingue Indemnity records. Name appears as Bizoton and Bizonton.)

The Issue of Antoine Pierre d'Aquin and his wife Marguerite Pierrette Charlotte Bizoton were:

Charles Pierre (or Pierre Charles) d'Aquin "de des Cahots". Father Delaney's History of the Catholic Church in Jamaica states that the father of Henri Philippe d'Aquin (who was a son of Charles Pierre d'Aquin), "was a native of the town of Aquin in Saint Domingo". Be that as it may, we do know that Charles Pierre d'Aquin married Marie Louise Victoire Le Bon Lapointe, and we presume that this marriage took place in Saint Domingue.

We are also informed that a d'Aquin pedigree describes Charles Pierre as "GARDE DE CORPS DE LOUIS XVI PUIS PLANTEUR DE LA JAMAIQUE". Marie Louise Victoire was daughter of Louis Pierre Le Bon Lapointe and his wife Victoire-Antoinette de Colmenil.

The Issue of Charles Pierre d'Aquin and his wife Marie Louise Victoire Le Bon Lapointe, were:

Sidley d'Aquin who is said to have been the eldest child, and who married Emile Marchand*. She left issue.

(*We understand that "ONE ACCOUNT HAS A DAUGHTER ADELE M. (CHARLES MARCHAND).

Louis Charles d'Aquin who is said to have been the eldest son and who was called 'Charles'. He married Marie Anne Elizabeth Daron, (called 'Elizabeth') daughter of Dr. Jean Paul Daron and his wife Elisabeth Desmortiers.

Louis Charles d'Aquin died at New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1836.

Henri Philippe.Adolphe d'Aquin who is said to have been called 'Adolphe'. He was born, doubtless in Jamaica, on December 21, 1810 and on March 19, 1834 he married at Kingston, Louise Adele daughter of Georges Quentin de Sainte-Marie and his wife Louise Caroline Du Bourg.

Henri Philippe Adolphe died in Kingston, Jamaica, on February 1st 1869, and was buried in the Churchyard of old Holy Trinity Church.

When his daughters, Caroline and Josephine, entered the Convent of the Immaculate Conception at Kingston, Mr. d'Aquin (according to Fr. Delaney's History of the Catholic Church in Jamaica, "GAVE TO THE FRANCISCAN SISTERS IN JAMAICA A LARGE PROPERTY IN THE PARISH OF ST. ANDREW WHICH IS NAMED 'ALVERNIA' BUT COMMONLY KNOWN AS 'NUNS PEN'."

Elise d'Aquin who married Adolphe Prieur. Left issue.

Eveline d'Aquin ("d.s.p." [without issue]) who married Charles Daron* son of Doctor Jean Paul Daron and his wife Elisabeth Desmortiers.

(*One pedigree describes him, we understand, as "Charles Edward Daron".)

Louise Marie Therese d'Aquin (nicknamed 'Elmire').

She married Pierre Elie Theodore Daron, another son of Doctor Daron, and we are informed that her husband and herself "removed to New Orleans", presumably, from Jamaica. Left Issue.

Amelie d'Aquin, described as a Religieuse du Sacre Coeur at Kingston, Jamaica. We have no further information about her.

Jules d'Aquin, described as 'of Jamaica'. He married Mrs. widow of Lesparre, and died at New Orleans, La. "d.s.p."

Lilia d'Aquin who married Louis Lambert Brown. Left Issue.

Louis Thomas d'Aquin (called 'Thomas'), He married firstly: Louise Desdunes; and Secondly: Louise Guex.

A pencil note on the d'Aquin pedigree reads: "Called himself Vicomte."

Adele d'Aquin who married Louis Lambert Brown, widower of her sister Lilia. Left issue.

(Note: Lilia and Adele were the youngest of the girls. Sidley was the eldest child and Louis Charles the eldest son.)

(Pierre Charles d'Aquin was proprietor of Highgate in the Parish of St. Thomas in the Vale, Jamaica. )

...................................

The Issue of Louis Charles d'Aquin, and his wife Marie Anne Elisabeth Daron, were:

Henri Charles d'Aquin* (called 'Henri') who married Rose Tricou. Joseph Georges d'Aquin who was called 'Georges' and who married Cecile de Manclain.

(* signs marriage register at his uncle Henri Philippe Adolphe's wedding as 3"Charles d'Aquin fils.")

Joseph Georges d'Aquin died at Precy sur Oise France, on January 3, 1911.

Helene d'Aquin the authoress of "Souveniers d'Amerique et de France". She married Frederic Allain, M.D. at New Orleans, La., and afterwards resided at "St. Germain en Laye, France."

----------

The Issue of Henri Philippe Adolphe d'Aquin (1810-1869), and of his wife Louise Adele de SainteMarie, were:

Eveline Louise d'Aquin who was born in Jamaica and who married at Kingston on January 29, 1868, Theodore le Mercier du Quesnay son of Antoine Joseph Ulysse le Mercier du Quesnay and his wife Charlotte Delfosse.

Elise d'Aquin who was born in Jamaica and who married there (we believe,) Frank Dallas. Josephine d'Aquin (Religious) who entered the Convent of the Immaculate Conception at Kingston, Jamaica, probably at the same time as her sister Caroline, Feb. 2 1858, and who was called Sister Mary Clare. She died in Jamaica, November 3, 1922 was buried at Nuns Pen in lower St Andrew.

Caroline d'Aquin (Religious) who entered the Convent of the Immaculate Conception at Kingston, Jamaica, February 2, 1858, and was called Sister Mary Joseph Francisca. We remember her well for she taught us in our Convent School days (i.e. 1903). Caroline is said to have spent 64 or 65 tears [years?] in the Convent. She died June 12 (or 13) 1922 and was buried at Nuns Pen.

"Catholic Opinion" of May-June 1941, gives the date of her death as June 13, 1922 and her age as 79. Other information (however, the source of which we do not remember) said he was 84 years old and that she died 6/12/18__. However, Fr. Delaney's "History of the Catholic Church in Jamaica" also gives June 13 as date of death and age as____.
