RELIGIOUS DENOMINATIONS
THE ECCLESIASTICAL ISLAND ESTABLISHMENT
[refers to the Church of England in Jamaica, also called Anglican Church]
Consists of a Bishop and three Archdeacons, who are appointed and paid by the British Government; a Rector to each of the 22 parishes of the Island, and 50 Island Curates, who are paid out of the Island Treasury, and 10 stipendiary Curates, one moiety of whose salary is paid by the Island, and the other moiety out of funds received from Great Britain. There is also a Chaplain to the Kingston General Penitentiaries at £400 a year, who is appointed by the Governor, and a Registrar of the Diocese, and Apparitor to the Bishop.
Each Rector has either a Glebe provided by the Parish, independent of his salary from the Public Treasury, or receives from the Parish from £80 to £100 in lieu of Glebe.
Some of the clergy are also Chaplains to the troops in the Island, for which they are remunerated by the British Government.

UNITED METHODIST FREE CHURCHES
This body is the amalgamation of the late British Wesleyan Methodist Association and a portion of the Wesleyan Reformers. The united churches now number about 60,000 members in England and elsewhere.
The Mission in Jamaica numbering over 1,000 members, has stations at the following places: Kingston, Gordon Town, Constitution Hill, and the Cavaliers in St. Andrew's; Guava Ridge in Port Royal, Claremont and Refuge in St. Ann's; Crooked River, Cumberland and Unity in Clarendon; Annotto Bay, Enfield, Bellefield and Come-see in Metcalfe.
