Respecting the Marriages
celebrated by Messrs Johnson & Young, I can say nothing as to the fees
received but since I have been Rector of the Parish I have never made a demand
of any fee from Slaves, leaving it entirely to the parties themselves, or their
owners, to pay what they thought proper, or could afford. The amount is usually
a Pistole.
