Apr 11, 1805, and died Jul 11, 1875 in Kings Pen, Westmoreland.

Notes for Robert Briggs:
In connection with the Kings property, his name was listed in the Jamaica Almanac in 1840 in the column for "proprietors, &c."  Besides proprietors, property attorneys, trustees, or husbands in right of their wives, were also included in this column.

In the 1838 Almanac he was listed in the same column as having 65 apprentices.  The name of the property involved was not included in the 1838 Almanac.

Jamaica Ss.
This is the Last Will and Testament of me Deborah Heath Briggs of the Parish of Westmoreland Widow. I give devise and bequeath unto my dear Children named Deborah Ann Briggs, Robert Briggs, Cornelia Martha Sheaf (Wife of George Sheaf, Penkeeper), George Todd Hunter Briggs, Susan Jane Briggs, Charlotte Harkness Briggs and John Henry Briggs share and share alike as Tenants in Common and not as joint Tenants all my real and personal property of whatsoever nature or kind I may be possessed of or entitled to at the time of my decease and wheresoever situate (subject and except as hereinafter mentioned) And furthermore should any or either of my beforenamed Children depart this life I devise the share of him her or them so dying shall enure to and belong to the Survivor or Survivors his her or their heirs and Assigns for ever. My further Will and desire is that the female portion of my said Children shall and may always have the use occupation and enjoyment of such houses with their appurtenances as are situate belonging to and being on my Lands and premises in preference to the male portion of my said Children who are better off in circumstances and able otherwise to provide for themselves. And I do hereby nominate name and appoint my said Daughter Deborah Ann Briggs and my friend John Mc Kinnon Campbell of the parish of Westmoreland Esquire the Executrix and Executor of this my Will and Testament and do hereby revoke all former Will or Wills by me made at any time or times heretofore. In Witness whereof I have to this my last Will and Testament subscribed my name and set my seal this Seventeenth day of June in the Year of our Lord One thousand and Eight Hundred and Sixty Two.

Marriage Notes for Robert Briggs and Deborah Moore:
"Robert Briggs of the parish of Saint Dunstan, Stepney, in the County of Middlesex, and Deborah Heath Moore of this parish, spinster and minor, were married in this Church by Licence with the consent of John Russell Moore, father of the said minor, this twenty-fourth day of May" 1824. (Page 349 #565 of "Marriages solemnized in the Parish of Saint Luke in the County of Middx. in the Year 1824.") From a certificate extracted from the Marriage Register on October 4, 1833.

Witnesses at the marriage were Ann Mary Jane Moore (mother of the bride), Wm. Vaughan, and Petty Vaughan.  Ceremony by: John Howard Rice, L.L.D., curate

The marriage was reported by the Times of London on May 25, 1824, which said that the bride was the "eldest daughter of John Russell Moore, Esq., of Amity Estate, Westmorland, Jamaica."

Notes for Charlotte Harkness Briggs:
In the Registrar's Copy of the register of baptisms, she was listed as black, and the listing was partially erased.  Her father's occupation was listed as "apprentice", obvious errors, perhaps in copying.  She was baptized by the Rector, Thomas Stewart.

Notes for Charles Malcolm McLeod:
In the Parish Register for 1858 there is a special certificate inserted, indicating that the original recording of his baptism had listed his birthdate as April 31, 1837.  His father had to make a deposition in 1858, and on May 22, 1858 a certificate was written to correct the date to April 3, 1837.

Higman lists him as the surveyor of Middle Quarters and King's.  The National Library of Jamaica has one of his plans of a St. Elizabeth property done in 1876.

In 1878 "The Jamaica Directory" shows C. M. McLeod as the lessee of Kings.

He was the owner of Kings Pen on the 1890 composite map of Westmoreland surveys (C. M. McLeod)

She was the sister of Marguerite Guigues.

According to the 1811 and 1812 Almanacs, William Kerr D'Aguilar owned property in Clarendon, with slaves and stock.

Notes for Marguerite Guigues:
In 1820, at the Roman Catholic baptism of her daughter Maria, and that of her niece Mary Ann, the record was written in French by the Portuguese minister Juan J. R. de Araujo.  He wrote it as "Digues."

In March 1842 at her daughter's marriage by Edmund Murphy, who was English speaking, it was written "Giges."

Later in 1842 when her daughter's marriage ceremony was performed in the other Roman Catholic Church by G. L. Duquesnay, who was French-speaking, he wrote it as "Guyguies" or "Guygues".

She was the sister of Emilie Guigues.

In the 1818 Slave Registers for Kingston, she registered as the agent for Charles Kerr and Maria Kerr her reputed children, owners of 3 slaves.  (The Register gives her name as Margrett and Margrite Guigues).

In 1829 she is in the Slave Register for Kingston, as guardian of Charles, Maria and William K. D'Aguilar, owners of 6 slaves.  She signed her name Marguerite Guigues.

In the Roman Catholic register of her baptism her name was written in French as "Mariane Apoline D'Aguilar."

The Anglican register for Clarendon says she was "the natural daughter of Hanniel D'Aguilar and Emilie Gegie."

In 1817 Emilie Guigues signed the Slave Register as agent for Poliminey M. D'Aguilar her reputed child, as owner of two slaves in Kingston.

In 1823 Polminey M. D'Aguilar signed the Slave Register as owner of 2 slaves. (She would then have been over 21, and an adult.)

Notes for Maria Antoinette Kerr D'Aguilar:
Her baptism was recorded in French, and her name listed as " Marie Antoinette Kerr".  In records where her name is written in English, it is Maria. She was baptized on the same day as Mary Ann D'Aguilar, daughter of Maria's aunt Emilie Guigues.  The name of Maria's father was listed as "William Kerr" on the record of baptism.  Based on relationships that are found in other records, it is evident that this was a mistake that was made when the names were written down, and that "D'Aguilar" should have been the surname, and "Kerr" was a middle name.

The burial record was in French, signed by Benito Fernandez.  It was written as "Madame John Stuart", and "M. K. D'Aguilar, dame" was inserted.

Marriage Notes for Maria D'Aguilar and John Stuart:
The St. Patrick's marriage record reads as follows:

"In the year 1842 on the 12 March we the undersigned solemnized the marriage of John Stuart and Maria Kerr D'aguilar - In presence of Jeremiah Murphy and Margaret Giges.
Edm. Murphy A.M."

This marriage was recorded in the back of the Register of Baptisms for St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Chapel.  The witness "Margaret Giges", who was Maria's mother, Marguerite Guigues.

The couple was remarried by a minister of the Trinity Roman Catholic Church on June 8, 1842, the date that Maria died.  The second marriage was recorded in order to legitimize the 4 children which the couple had borne out of wedlock.  This was a common practice, and would have made the children the legitimate heirs of John Stuart.

That record reads as follows:

"On the 8 June 1842 the revd. G. L. Duquesnay has united in holy matrimony John Stuart, and Maria K. D'Aguilar - and gave them the nuptial benediction in presence of Martin Pedro his X mark, Marguerite Guyguies her X mark.
[Signed] John Stuart, G. L. Duquesnay
they having born children named John, Mary, Colin & Robert Stuart - at above date -  G. L. Duquesnay;
Benito Fernandez
Vic. Ap."

"Marguerite Guyguies" [Guigues] was Maria's mother.  The entry was on page 25 of Marriages in the Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Kingston.
