He signed an indenture Purchase of land by John Clarke from John Broadbelt on August 2, 1768.2 He signed an indenture Transfer of land from John Broadbelt to John Clarke on August 2, 1768.3 He signed an indenture Sale of land to John Clarke on August 10, 1769.4 He signed an indenture Made to modify certain terms and conditions made in a Tripartite Indenture dated 2 April 1762 on November 10, 1769.5 He signed an indenture John Clarke sells 1 acre of land on September 10, 1781.6 He signed an indenture John Clarke buys land on May 1, 1782.7 He had his miniature painted in 1784. He was a Vestryman [probably] on February 24, 1787 in Montego Bay, Jamaica.8 He was a Vestryman [probably] on February 20, 1790 in Lucea.9 He signed an indenture Contract for the sale of land on February 2, 1793.10 He died after 1794.

He was married to Petronella VIRGO (daughter of Col. William VIRGO and Mary) before 1767.11 Petronella VIRGO was born about 1746.12 She died in 1767/68.11 John CLARKE and Petronella VIRGO had the following children:

       2   i. John CLARKE was born before 1767.13 He died on December 1, 1787 in Hanover.14 He dsp [died without issue].15

William Virgo CLARKE17 (John-1) was born on October 23, 1767 in Hanover, Jamaica.18 He was baptised on December 27, 1767 in Hanover.19 He was a Vestryman [probably] on February 24, 1787 in Montego Bay, Jamaica.20 He was a Vestryman [probably] on February 23, 1788 in Hanover.21 He was an Ensign, Hanover Militia in 1789.22 He was a Vestryman [probably] on February 22, 1789 in Lucea.23 He was a Vestryman [probably on February 20, 1790 in Lucea.24 He was a Lt. in Militia in 1793.22 He signed an indenture for the purchase of land from his father, John Clarke, on February 2, 1793 in Hanover adjacent to Aurora, Crooks Penn & the Kings Road.25 He was a Capt. in the Militia in 1794.22 He was Capt. Hanover Militia in 1796.26 He signed an indenture for the purchase of land from Thos. & Francis Ann Minto on November 18, 1799 in an area adjacent to Aurora, Retreat Pen & the Kings Road.27 He was Captain in Militia at Flint River, Hanover in 1802.28 He signed an indenture for the purchase of slaves on October 20, 1802 in the Parish of Hanover, Jamaica.29 He was an Assistant Judge Court of Common Pleas & Land Surveyor in 1804.22 He was an Assistant Judge in 1805 in Hanover.30 He was a Commisioner of Supreme Court in 1805.31 He was Captain in Hanover Militia in 1805.32 He was a Lt Col in Militia in 1807.22 He was an Assistant Judge, Hanover in 1808.33 He was a Land Surveyor in Commission in 1808.34 He was a Lt Col in the Hanover Militia in 1808.35 He was a Surveyor in 1809.36 He signed an indenture for the transfer of land from Charles & Judith Bernard to Thomas Phillpots on March 31, 1809 in Trafalgar in St James.37 He signed a will on September 9, 1809 in Parish of Hanover, Jamaica.38 He was owner of Retreat Penn & Hybla in 1811 in Hanover, Jamaica.39 He resided at Retreat in 1812 in Hanover.40 He was a Commissioned Surveyor in 1815.41 He was owner of Retreat Penn with 45 slaves & 33 stock in 1815. He died on September 12, 1815 in Hanover.42 He was buried on
September 13, 1815 in Hanover.43 He signed an indenture Inventory on January 20, 1816.44 He served in the military.

He was married to Ann Parr BERNARD (daughter of General Daniel BERNARD and Mary PARR) on January 15, 1789 in Mount Pleasant, St James.45,46 Ann Parr BERNARD was born on July 7, 1771 in St James.47 She was baptised on January 19, 1773 in St James.48 She had slaves in guardianship for late husband WVC, 1 male & 2 female in 1817 in St James.49 She owned 3 slaves in 1820 in St James.50 She owned 4 slaves in 1821 in St James.51 She owned 3 slaves in 1822 in St James.52 She resided at Stonefield in 1823 in Hanover.53 She signed a will on April 10, 1826 in Hanover, Jamaica.54 She died on January 14, 1836 in Lucea, Hanover, Jamaica.55,56 There was an Inventory of will on April 8, 1836.57

William Virgo CLARKE and Ann Parr BERNARD had the following children:

       6 iii. Ann Bernard CLARKE58 resided at Stonefield in 1823 in Hanover.59 She died after 1836.

THIRD GENERATION

4. John CLARKE (William Virgo-2, John-1) was born on May 14, 1791 in Hanover, Jamaica.60 He resided at Stonefield in 1823 in Hanover.61 He died after 1836.


He was married to D.P. MCINTOSH in 1813 in Hanover, Jamaica.22 D.P. MCINTOSH resided Cathagena in St James, Jamaica in 1813.

5. William Virgo CLARKE (William Virgo-2, John-1) was born on September 26, 1801.62,63 He resided at Stonefield in 1823 in Hanover.64 He owns 8 slaves in 1826 in St James.65 He Owns 8 slaves in 1828 in Hanover.66 He was a Sworn Measurer in 1831.67 He Owns 9 slaves in 1831 in Hanover.68 He Owns 8 slaves in 1832 in Hanover.69 He was a Lic. Catechist [person licensed to teach the christian faith TC] in 1833.70 He Owns 8 slaves in 1833 in Hanover.71 He was the Clerk [Clerk in Holy Orders, Anglican clergyman] Green Island Chapel in 1835.72 He was a Poundkeeper, Green Island in 1837.73 He was a schoolmaster in 1839 in Point Estate, Hanover.74 He was the Clerk [Clerk in Holy Orders] at Green Island Chapel in 1839 in Hanover.75 He was a Poundkeeper, Green Island in 1839 in Hanover.76 He died on September 23, 1840.77

He was married to Martha Jane GREAVES (daughter of George GREAVES and Judith GREAVES) on September 22, 1823 at Clermont Hill, Trelawney, Jamaica.78,79  Martha Jane GREAVES was born on July 9, 1801.80 She resided at Stonefield in 1823 in Hanover.81 She died on February 19, 1834.82

William Virgo CLARKE and Martha Jane GREAVES had the following children:

      10  iv. Mary Jane CLARKE was born on October 11, 1831.88 She died on August 2, 1833.89
      11   v. Ellen Laura CLARKE was born on March 20, 1833.90 She died on December 8, 1833.91

He was married to Catherine BERNARD JAMES (daughter of David Bernard BERNARD JAMES and Ann THARP) on September 22, 1835 in Parish Church, Montego Bay, Jamaica.92 Catherine BERNARD JAMES was born on March 7, 1815.93 William Virgo CLARKE and Catherine BERNARD JAMES had the following children:

      12   i. William Virgo CLARKE was born on November 9, 1837 in Montego Bay, Jamaica.94 He died on November 17, 1837 in Montego Bay, Jamaica.95

FOURTH GENERATION

7. Ann John CLARKE (William Virgo-3, William Virgo-2, John-1) was born on January 3, 1825.96 She died on November 25, 1903 in Home Cottage, Lucea, Jamaica.97 She was also known as Aunt Annie.98

She was married to James PHILLIPS.99 James PHILLIPS resided in Home Cottage, Lucea, Jamaica.100

13. David Bernard CLARKE (William Virgo-3, William Virgo-2, John-1) was born on January 23, 1839 in Paradise, Hanover, Jamaica.101 He was a 2nd Mate certified on December 11, 1861 in Liverpool.102 He was a 1st Mate certified on November 11, 1862 in Liverpool.103 He was a 1st Mate in 1863.104,105 He was a 1st Mate in 1864.106 He was a 1st Mate in 1865/66.107 He was a Master Mariner certified on February 7, 1866 in London.108 He was a Master in 1868.109 He received a letter from passengers on his ship on November 27, 1868.110 He resided 3 Surrey Street in 1871 in Liverpool.111 He was a mariner in 1871.112 He was a Master in 1879.113 He was a Master in 1881.114 He was a Master in 1882.115 He was a Master in 1883.116 He was a Master in 1884.117 He was a Master in 1885.118 He was a Master in 1885.119 He was a Master in 1888.120 He died on July 13, 1896 in Montego Bay, Jamaica.121

He was married to Elizabeth RANKINE [NEE DAVIES] (daughter of Peter DAVIES and DAVIES) on March 14, 1867 in Liverpool.122 Elizabeth RANKINE [NEE DAVIES]123 was born in 1839 in Liverpool.124 She resided 3 Surrey street in 1871 in Liverpool.125 She resided 140 Harrowby Street in 1881 in Toxteth Park, Liverpool.126 She resided 87 Delamore Street in 1891 in Liverpool.127 She resided 75 Brookdale Road on March 31, 1901 in Liverpool.128 She was buried on November 16, 1915 in Toxteth Park, Liverpool.129 David Bernard CLARKE and Elizabeth RANKINE [NEE DAVIES] had the following children:

     +14    i. William Bernard CLARKE (born on May 22, 1868).
     +15   ii. Charles Sidney CLARKE (born in 1871).
      16  iii. Ernest David CLARKE was born on March 20, 1876 in St Thomas,[Liverpool?].130 He died on June 12, 1878 in Liverpool.131,132 He was buried on June 15, 1878 in Toxteth Park, Liverpool.133

Descendants of Col. William VIRGO

FIRST GENERATION

1. Col. William VIRGO resided in 1775 in Water Valley, Trelawny, Jamaica. He died in 1775. He signed a will on February 7, 1775 in Water Valley, Trelawney, Jamaica.1

He was married to Mary. Mary was born in 1720.2 She signed an indenture for the sale of Water Valley Estate on August 11, 1781.3,4 She signed an indenture Mary Virgo relinquishes all rights to the estate of her husband Col Wm Virgo
on October 7, 1781.5 She died on November 24, 1787 in Trelawny.6

Col. William VIRGO and Mary had the following children:

      +2    i. James VIRGO (born about 1745).
      +3   ii. Petronella VIRGO (born about 1746).
      +4  iii. Elizabeth VIRGO (born about 1747).

Hanover Militia in 1796.34 He signed an indenture for the purchase of land from Thos. & Francis Ann Minto on November 18, 1799 in an area adjacent to Aurora, Retreat Pen & the Kings Road.35 He Capt in Militia at Flint River, Hanover in 1802.36 He signed an indenture for the purchase of slaves on October 20, 1802 in Hanover Parish, Jamaica.37 He was an Assistant Judge Court of Common Pleas & Land Surveyor in 1804.30 He was an Assistant Judge in 1805 in Hanover.38 He was a Commisioner of Supreme Court in 1805.39 He Capt in Hanover Militia in 1805.40 He was a Lt Col in Militia in 1807.30 He was an Assistant Judge, Hanover in 1808.41 He was a Land Surveyor in Commission in 1808.42 He was a Lt Col in the Hanover Militia in 1808.43 He was a Surveyor in 1809.44 He signed an indenture for the transfer of land from Chas & Judith Bernard to Thos Phillpots on March 31, 1809 in Trafalgar in St James.45 He signed a will on September 9, 1809 in Parish of Hanover, Jamaica.46 He was owner of Retreat Penn & Hybla in 1811 in Hanover, Jamaica.47 He resided Retreat in 1812 in Hanover.48 He was a Commissioned Surveyor in 1815.49 He was owner of Retreat Penn with 45 slaves & 33 stock in 1815. He died on September 12, 1815 in
Hanover.50 He was buried on September 13, 1815 in Hanover.51 There was an Inventory on January 20, 1816.52 He served in the military.

He was married to Ann Parr BERNARD (daughter of General Daniel BERNARD and Mary PARR) on January 15, 1789 in Mount Pleasant,St James.53,54 Ann Parr BERNARD was born on July 7, 1771 in St James.55 She was baptised on January 19, 1773 in St James.56 She slaves in guardianship for late husband WVC, 1 male & 2 female in 1817 in St James.57 She owned 3 slaves in 1820 in St James.58 She owned 4 slaves in 1821 in St James.59 She owned 3 slaves in 1822 in St James.60 She resided Stonefield in 1823 in Hanover.61 She signed a will on April 10, 1826 in Hanover, Jamaica.62 She died on January 14, 1836 in Lucea, Hanover, Jamaica.63,64 There was an Inventory of her estate on April 8, 1836.65

William Virgo CLARKE and Ann Parr BERNARD had the following children:

     +13   i. John CLARKE (born on May 14, 1791).
     +14  ii. William Virgo CLARKE (born on September 26, 1801).
      15 iii. Ann Bernard CLARKE66 resided Stonefield in 1823 in Hanover.67 She died after 1836.

12. John Spence BRODBELT (Elizabeth VIRGO-2, William-1) was born in 1765.24
He was married to Francis BROOKS (daughter of Francis BROOKS) in 1791.24 Francis BROOKS was born in 1765.24

John Spence BRODBELT and Francis BROOKS had the following children:
