DEATHS

BALL H. Esq Clerk in the Surveyor-General's Department, aged 23 years, on 5th June, at Kingston.  Vol. 1, No. 1, page 127

BANCROFT, Dr. Nathanial E. on the 18th Sept. at Kingston, Jamaica. The doctor lived in the highest esteem among his fellow-citizens, and for many years was considered the head of the medical profession in Jamaica. He filled the office of Physician to the public hospital for many years, was elected President of the College of Physicians since the passing of the bill establishing that institution, and more recently received the appointment of Inspector-General of the military forces in this island, from Her Majesty's Government. The doctor lived to a good old age, and has left behind him several friends, and two amiable daughters. His remains were numerously attended to the grave by the gentry of the city, and several military and naval characters. The band of the 2d West [India Regiment] were also in attendance - from a Jamaican Paper. Vol. 1, No. 5, page 647
  

BARTLEY, Mr. Christopher, Beadle, and many years Keeper of Coke Chapel, sincerely regretted by a large circle of Friends, and acquaintances, on 14th July, at Kingston, Jamaica. Vol. 1, No. 2, page 254

BROWN, Miss Mary, aged 47 years, on the 11th June, after a few days' illness, at Falmouth, Jamaica. Vol. 1, No. 2, page 254

BROWN, Mr. Richard Acton, on the 20th Sept, at Kingston, Jamaica, by his own hand, during a fit of temporary derangement. Mr. Brown, had at one time been a merchant of Kingston city, had subsequently filled the office of Stipendiary Magistrate for one of the parishes, and more recently received the appointment of Deputy Collecting Constable of the Western district of that city. BURGESS, Sarah, the beloved and lamented wife of Mr. E. C. Burgess, aged 24 years, of scarlet fever, leaving her disconsolate husband and three infant children, and an extended circle of relatives and friends, to bewail the bereavement they are doomed to sustain from her premature loss; on the 9th June, at Buff Bay, St. George's, Jamaica. COATES, M. widow of the late J. COATES, Esq. of Montego Bay, aged 57 years, on the 19th July, at Ravensworth Lodge, Spanish Town, Jamaica. - Mrs. Coates was exemplary in all the duties of life, an attached and devoted wife, a fond and affectionate mother, a sincere and warm friend, a good and pious Christian, and universally esteemed and regretted by all who knew her. COHEN, S. Esq. on the 29th July, at Cookshade estate, St. Ann's, Kingston, Jamaica, much lamented by his numerous friends. Vol. 1, No. 3, page 389

DALGARDO [DELGADO?], M. Esq. on the 17th July, at Kingston, Jamaica. - Mr. Delgardo, who fell under scarlet fever, after an illness but of a few days, was an old and respectable inhabitant and merchant of this city, and was much esteemed by those who knew him. His character, as an upright and honest merchant, stands unimpeached. He was an affectionate father and a sincere friend. The flag was half-masted at the Commercial-Rooms, in testimony of the respect in which he was held by the mercantile community. Vol. 1, No. 3, page 389

DRUMMOND, Miss Catherine, of Font Hill estate, Jamaica, on the 18th August, age 140 years, she retained her faculties to the last.  Vol. 1, No.4, page 519

LIPSCOMBE, Cyril Hancorn, the youngest son of the Rev. J. K. LIPSCOMBE, surviving his mother only six months, aged 13 months, on 10th June, at Rosetta, St. Anne's, Jamaica. vol. 1, No. 2, page 255

McARTHUR, Mr. Ronald, on the 15th August at Blenheim estate, parish of Hanover, Jamaica. - Mr. M. was overseer on the above property for many years, and during that time gave general satisfaction to both attorney and proprietor; he was at all times liberal to his friends, and remarkably polite and kind to strangers.  Vol. 1, No.4, page 520

McINTOSH, Mary, the beloved wife of Mr. J. McIntosh, on the 26th June, after a lingering illness, which she bore with Christian fortitude, at the Muse, St. Thomas in the Vale, Jamaica.

McLEAN, of Argyleshire, Scotland, aged 73 years, on the 3rd August, at the residence of her son, Maugerville, Jamaica. - She was deeply and deservedly lamented by all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance, but more especially by a numerous circle of relatives. MOORE J. H. Esq. in his 34th year, after a few weeks' illness, on the 21st May, at Montrose Penn, St. Mary's, Jamaica; Clerk of the peace of that parish. Vol. 1, No. 1, page 128

NEILSON, Dr. Robert, Justice of the Peace, and Colonel of the Trelawny Regiment of the Militia in the Island of Jamaica, on the 8th May, at sea, on his passage to England. - Dr. Neilson was fifty years of age, twenty six of which had been spent in the neighbourhood of Falmouth (Jamaica). Distinguished as a gentleman of highly cultivated mind, his absence in the social circle will long be deplored by his numerous friends. His extensive practice was a convincing proof of the confidence which the public entertained of his abilities as a medical adviser. Dr. Neilson had been for twenty years the professional attendant of our parochial institutions; the duties of which he discharged with honour to himself, and satisfaction to the authorities. By his death, society has sustained a loss of serious and distressing nature.  Vol. 1, No.4, page 520

PRIEUR, E. D. the lamented wife of J. A. Prieur, Esq. leaving a large family to deplore her premature demise, on 20th June, at Kingston, Jamaica.  Vol. 1, No. 2, page 255

RICHARDS, Mr. Edward, for many years Beadle of the Parish Church, and Keeper of the Court-House of St. Andrew's, in his 55th year, on the 24th of June, at Halfway-Tree, Jamaica. He had the satisfaction of enjoying the esteem of his superiors; and in return, he always evinced the greatest respect towards them, and the most ready attention to their commands. Although humble in station, he will long be remembered by rich and poor. Vol. 1, No. 2, page 255

ROSS, W. Esq. on the 3rd July, at the Old Rectory, in the Parish of St. Thomas in the Vale, Jamaica. - His loss will be deeply felt by a numerous circle of friends, but none more that the persons accustomed to travel on the road on which his residence stood, and who had so frequently partaken of his boundless hospitality.  Vol. 1, No. 3, page 392

SCOTT, Charles Esq. aged 73 years, on the 7th August, at his residence near Morant Bay, Jamaica. - Mr Scott resided 45 years in the island, universally beloved and esteemed. While  true candour, pure integrity, innate modesty, and unbounded benevolence are estimable, his memory must be dear to all who knew him. Vol. 1, No.4, page 520

SIMON, Henry, Esq. age 33 years, after a short illness, leaving a deeply afflicted and bereaved wife and family who, with his numerous friends, will ever deplore his irreparable loss, on the 3rd of June, at Montego Bay, Jamaica. Vol. 1, No. 2, page 255
