In the name of God amen I Richard James the younger of the parish of Hanover Planter being at this present of sound and disposing mind and memory do make publish and ordain this my last will and testament hereby revoking and annulling all former wills by me at any time made and do dispose of my Temporal Estate and Effects in manner following (that is to say) Imprimis I will that my debts be paid as soon after my decease as my Executors can conveniently raise and pay the same without prejudice to my Estate
Item I give and bequeath unto Mountague James and William Haughton James sons of my Brother Mountague James Esquire the sum of one hundred and sixty pounds to be laid out within two years after my decease in purchasing two negro girl slaves for each of them being at the rate of Forty pounds for each slave
Item I give and bequeath to Richard Buckner James and Elizabeth James Son and Daughter of my Brother William James Esquire the sum of two hundred Pounds to be laid out in purchasing Five negro girl slaves within two years after my decease at forty pounds each slave two whereof are to be for the use and to be made the property of the said Richard Buckner James and the remaining three to be for the use and to be made the property of the said Elizabeth James
Item I give unto Richard James Lawrence son of my Brother in Law James Lawrence Esqr the sum of Two hundred pounds to be laid out within two years after my decease in purchasing three negro Girls and two negro Boys Slaves for the use and Benefit of the said Richard James Lawrence
Item I give and bequeath to Elizabeth Atkins and Mary Atkins the Sisters of my Wife Rebecca the sum of Two hundred and forty pounds to be laid out within two years after my Decease in purchasing four negro Girls and two negro Boys Slaves at Forty pounds each slave two girls and one boy where of to be for the use of the said Elizabeth Atkins and the remaining two girls and one boy for the use of Mary Atkins and with these several Bequests I charge my real Estate in Case my personal Estate be not sufficient to make good the Same and I will that My Executors use their own discretion in purchasing the several slaves above mentioned and in allotting them out to the Several persons who are to have the benefit of the same
Item I will that my negro woman slave Mimma and her two mulatto children Ricardo and Joan have their manumission and Exemption from Slavery immediately after my decease and I hereby give to each of them their absolute Freedom and will that my Executors immediately after my decease be at the care costs and charges of having their Several Freedoms registered So as to render the same Valid according to my true meaning and intent in Setting them Free from Slavery and I charge that my real Estate consisting of one undivided Moiety of a plantation or Sugar work Situate at davis's cave(sic) in the parish of Hanover with the payment of three several Annuities or yearly charges of ten pounds each for the maintenance and Support one thereof to be for the use and Benefit of the said Negro woman Mimma one other for the Benefit of her Mulatto Child Ricardo and the remaining one for the Benefit of her mulatto Child Joan to be paid Quarterly and to continue during the terms of their respective lives
Item I Give and bequeath Two hundred pounds to the Poor of the Parish of Hanover for ever
Item and give and devise to my Brother William James Esquire all Benefit of a Mortgage of a Plantation of Sugar work Situate at Green Island in the said parish of Hanover belonging to Edward Knowles and Thomas Knowles made to me by Robert Knowles Father of the said Edward and Thomas Knowles for securing the Sum of Three hundred and fifty pounds with Interest which said sum of three hundred and Fifty pounds together with all the Interest due or to become due thereon is hereby declared and meant to be included in this devise
Item I give to my said Brother William James all and every sum and sums of money due on account to me from Edward Knows and Thomas Knowles or either of them as Heirs of Robert Knowles above mentioned Planter de'ced for the use and occupation of a Barricadera called the Hope Barricadera in the parish of Westmorland or by reason or means of any Contract of agreement relative to the same between the said Robert Knowles and my Father Richard James the Elder wherein I may be found to be interested
Item I give and devise to my daughter Sarah James the sum of Three Thousand pounds as her Portion to be paid at the age of twenty one years or day of her marriage which shall first happen with the payment of which I expressly charge my said Estate consisting of one undivided Moiety of a plantation or Sugar work Situated at Davis's Cove aforesaid and also all my Moiety of the Negroes and Stock belonging thereto and my will is that in the interim and until my said Daughter shall arrive at her said age of twenty one years or day of marriage she shall be paid and allowed out of my said Estate Sixty pounds a year for her Maintenance and education All the rest and residue of my Estate real and personal whatsoever and wheresoever I give and devise to and for the use benefit and Behoof of my Son Richard Haughton James his heirs and assigns for ever and I appoint my Brother Montague James Esquire my Brother in Law James Lawrence Esq and Philip Haughton the elder of the Parish of Hannover (sic) Esquire Trustees and Guardians of the persons and Estates of my said Son and Daughter during their Minority and Executors of this my last will and testament Contained in one Sheet of paper which is signed as and for my last will and Testament by my hand being thereto set and Seal affixed the ninth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred and fifty five

Know ye that we have Constituted Authorized and Appointed and by these Presents Do Constitute Authorize and appoint ye or either of ye to Administer an Oath unto Robert Shutewell William Lile and Robert Saunders or either of them or any other that are Witnesses and can make Oath of the Signing Sealing Publishing and declaring of the Last Will and Testament of Richard James late of the Parish of Hanover Esqr.    In the Name of God Amen the twenty Seventh day of May One thousand Seven hundred and fifty Eight I Richard James the Elder of the Parish of Hanover in the Island of Jamaica Planter being Sick and Weak in Body but of perfect mind and Memory thanks be to God for the same But calling to mind the Mortality of the Body & knowing that it is appointed for all Men once to die Do make and Ordain this to be my last Will and Testament that is to say First and Principally I give and Recommend my Soul into the Hands of Almighty God that gave it an my Body I recommend to the Earth to be buried in a Christian Decent Burial at the Discretion of my friends & as touching my Worldly Estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this Life I give devise & Dispose of the same in manner and form following
Imprimis that whereas I am Indebted to Sundry Persons in divers Sums of Money upon Specialities and Simple Contract & am willing & desirous that all and every part of my Debts should be paid and Satisfied in the most Expeditious and Convenient manner that may be without Prejudice to my Estate or to any Devise or Bequest of any part of the same by this my Last Will and Testament I do therefore hereby first Expressly & particularly Charge with and Subject to the Payment of all my Debts all that my Moiety or half part of  [inserted - a Plantation or Sugar Work Situate near Daviss Cove in the Parish aforesaid with the Appurtenances and also all my Moiety or half part of..] the Negroe and other Slaves Mules Cattle and other Stock thereunto belonging

Item I give and bequeath until my Grandson Thomas James the Sum of Two Hundred Pounds
Item I give unto my Grandson Haughton James the Son of my own Son Haughton James the sum of fifty Pounds
All the rest residue and remainder of my Estate both real and personal and every part thereof & also Every thing or things Penns Lands Cattle and Stock whatsoever which may at any time hereafter be found or proved to be belonging to me or my Property in an Place or at any time whatever I give and bequeath unto my Son Montague James whom I hereby Nominate Constitute and appoint Sole Executor of this my Last Will and Testament and in Case of the death of my said Son Montague James my Will & Desire is that Samuel Torrent James Montague James Thomas James William Haughton James and Richard James the Sons of my Son Montague James may become Heirs to my Estate So bequeathed as aforesaid unto my said Son Montague James & to be equally divided between them their Heirs & Assigns for Ever & in Case of the Death of Either of them without Heirs of the Body Lawfully begotten my Will & Desire is that the deceased's Part may be Equally divided between the Survivors of the said Sons of my son Montague James their Heirs & Assigns

Personally came and appeared before me Robert Shutewell of the Parish of Hannover and made Oath on the Holy Evangelists that he was present & did See Richard James Esquire the Testator within mentioned being then of sound Mind and Memory Sign Seal Publish & declare the within written Instrument to be his Last Will & Testament & that at the same time William Like & Robert Saunders were also present & together with him Subscribed their names as Witnesses to the same in the Presence of the said Testator & of Each other & further that he knows nothing of any other Will since made by the said Testator which may tend to the Prejudice of the Will within written

In the Name of God Amen I Dennis John Myrie James of the parish of Hanover in the County of Cornwall and Island of Jamaica being of perfect mind and memory do make this my last will and testament first it is my desire that all my just and lawful debts be paid then I give an bequeath to each of my four nieces the Daughters of my sisters (sic) Elizabeth Lucy Fraser the sum of one hundred pounds Currency
Item I give and bequeath to my Brother Samuel Torrent James the sum f two hundred pounds Currency
Item it is my will and desire that my deceased Fathers two mulatto Children Named John Montague James and Anne Elizabeth James be freed from all Slavery and that they may be supported from my property till they are of an age to maintain themselves then to have the sum each which the law directs to purchase land to live on
Item I give and bequeath unto each of my worthy Friends William Virgo Clarke and Ann Parr Clarke a full suit of mourning and also to my said Friend William Virgo Clarke [c.o.] I give and bequeath my riding Horse named Porter
The residue and remainder of my property both real and personal I give and bequeath to my dear sister Rachel Myrie James Spinster and in Case of her death without heirs of her body lawfully begotten then to my Brother Samuel Torrent James and in Case of both dying without heirs of their body lawfully begotten my will and desire is that my property be Equally divided between my four nieces share and share alike after paying a legacy to John Clark and Ann Bernard Clarke each the children of my friends William Virgo Clarke and Ann Parr Clarke and in Case as before of my Brother and Sister dying without Heirs of their body lawfully begotten it is then my will and desire that my faithful Servant Thomas James be no longer a slave and that he be freed from all Slavery whatsoever and to be allowed the usual sum to purchase land for him to live on. Lastly I Constitute nominate and appoint my Friends William Virgo Clarke and Richard Haughton Reid Esquires Executors to this my last will and testament and I do hereby utterly revoke disallow and [above: dis] annul all former bequests wills and Legacies by me heretofore in any wise made or left declaring and Confirming this my last will and testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this Thirteenth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand with hundred

   In the name of God Amen I Thomas James of the parish of Hanover and Island aforesaid being of sound mind memory and understanding to make this my last Will as follows Imprimis it is my Will and desire that all my Just debts and funeral expences be first paid and discharged out of my Estate by my Executors herein after to be named I then give and bequeath unto my brother William Rhodes James my two negroe men slaves named Bristol and Dick, I give my Sister Ann Collingwood and to her heirs forever All those Negroes late the property of the deceased Doctor John Currell bought by me at Public Sale this I give to her in lieu and barr of Annuity which by a certain instrument in writing I entered into to pay her during her life I give to my Niece Ann James Currell my negroe woman named Black Fanny and her [c.o.] two Sambo Children named William and John and to her son Thomas James Currell I give my two Mulatto Men Slaves named Billy and Ned I give unto my niece Mary Brown of Kew and to her heirs for ever my two Negroes named Tom and Bob, I give to my Nephew Daniel Bernard of Content my three Negroes named Clara Nanny and her son Neptune for and during the term of his natural life and after his decease then to his youngest son to be named Thomas to him and his heirs for ever but in Case the said Daniel Bernard Survives his Youngest Son then the Said three Negroes devolves to his Eldest Son and his heirs for ever I give out the monies due to me by my Brother William Rhodes James for Annuities And other Accounts the following Sums three thousand pounds Sterling to Thomas James Currell and to William Rhodes James Junr the Grandson of William Rhodes James two thousand pounds Sterling, I give to Julia Morgan daughter of Julia Pitter my Sambo Woman named Fanny Alias Francis, It is my Will and desire that the following negroes named Tony Page Oronsque Cuffy Diamond and Hamlet shall be sold and the monies arising from the said Sale to be laid out by Executors in the purchase of a piece of Land for the Support of and Emolument of a Sambo Woman named Sarah residing with me and her three children now born named Catherine William and Sarah the rest of the parcel of negroes bought of Ainsley and Wife named Ned Psyche Present Ammillis and Fanny I give to the said Sambo Woman Sarah and Also to the Child she is now ensient with (provided it be born alive) to be equally divided between them share and share alike to them and their heirs for ever I also give to the said Sambo Woman Sarah All my Household linen and Wearing Apparel together with two Bedsteads Beds Musquitto Netts & Compleat Also I give small desks with the linen And every thing Contained in the said Desks it is however my desire that two pair of Good Sheets two Beds with Musquitto Nett & two small dressing Tables be reserved for the Use of the Attorney when he visits the Estate I give Also to the Above named Sarah my pacing Horse I give to my Mulatto Slave Named John Reeder his freedom and ten Pounds to be paid by my Executors as a reward for his faithful past Services I also give to his Sister named Amelia her freedom And five Pounds to be paid by my Executors as a reward for her faithful past Services I give also to my Slave Jenny Phillips her freedom I give to my Niece Mary Brown my new Table of Yellow Saunders1 with oval ends My Carriage Carriage  Horses and furniture together with my new Side Board large Mahogany dining Tables (on excepted belonging to Mrs Currell Breakfast tables two large desks and a large Beaufit2 Standing in the Hall, plate China and Earthenware Wines Liquor & Kitchen furniture being all my property I desire may be Sold by my Executors and the Monies Arising therefore applyed to the Payment of by Debts Legacies &c And should any surplus money remain after discharging my debts and legacies it is my Will and desire that it be paid over and given to the said Sambo Woman Sarah for her use and the use of her Children the rest Residue and remainder of the Household furniture I give to the Sambo Woman Sarah The Rest residue and Remainder of Estate real and personal of whatever kind and nature soever I give unto my Brother William [c.o.] Rhodes James and lastly I hereby Constitute and Appoint William Brown of Kew Hanover William Green of Goodhope Trelawny and Daniel Bernard of [c.o. Know ye that we have constituted authorized and appointed an by these presents do constitute authorize and appoint ye or either of ye to administer an oath unto Jonathan Haughton Philip Anglin and William Clarke or any other that at witnesses and can make oath of the signing sealing publishing and declaring of the last will and testament of Frances James late of the parish of Hanover widow deceased and thereof you or either of you are to make a due return under your or either of your hands and seals unto our Captain General and Governor in chief of out said island or to the Governor in chief of the same for the time being with this power annexed so that such proceedings may be ordered therein as my (sic) be according to Law Witness His Excellency Edward Trelawny Esqr Captain General and Governor in chief of out said Island at St Jago de la Vega the third day of december annoq: Domini 1747 and in the twenty first year of our reign

Item I leave devise and bequeath unto my loving daughter Francis Parr widow one negro woman named Hannah and her five children named Joan Maria Cuffee Beneba and Hardy with all my neat cattle to hold the same unto the said Frances Parr her heirs and assigns for ever
Item I leave devise and bequeath unto my said two daughters Mary Clarke and Frances Parr all my house hold furniture whatsoever to be equally divided between them share and share alike
Item I order and direct that the sum of forty pounds shall be paid out of my estate and laid out by my son Edward James in the purchase of a negro woman for the use and behoof of my son Richard James his heirs and assigns for ever
Item and order and direct that the sum of forty pounds shall be paid out of my estate and laid out by my son Edwd James in the purchase of a negro.... for the use & ........... James his heirs and assigns forever
Item I leave and bequeath unto my said daughter Mary Clarke her heirs and assigns for ever a lott of land out of my parcell of land scituate to the westward of Lucea Harbour in the parish of Hanover aforesaid to be laid out and allotted for her by my said son Edward James and in such manner as he shall think fitt and convenient
Item I leave devise and bequeath unto my said daughter Fraces Parr her heirs and assigns for ever one other lott of land out of the aforesaid parcell to be laid out and allotted for her by my said son Edward James and in such manner as he shall think fitt and convenient
Item I leave and bequeath unto my grandson George James his heirs and assigns for ever one other lott of land out of the aforesaid parcell to be laid out and allotted for him by my said son Edward James and in such manner as he shall think fitt and convenient
Item I leave and bequeath unto my two sons Richard James and Archibald James two lotts of land out of the aforesaid parcell to be laid out and allotted for them by my said son Edward James and in such manner as he shall think fitt and convenient to hold them and each of them and the issue of their and each of their respective bodies lawfully begotten for ever and in default of such issue then to hold the same unto my said daughters Mary Clarke and Frances Parr their heirs and assigns for ever part and share alike
Item all the rest residue and remainder of my estate real and personal whatsoever and wheresoever I give devise and bequeath unto my said two sons Edward and Charles James their heirs and assigns for ever to be equally divided between them part and share alike
and lastly I do nominate constitute and appoint my said sons Edward James and Charles James executors of this my will revoking hereby all former wills declaring this my only last will and testament In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this twenty fifth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty six
